Just read through almost this whole thread...has anybody gotten an f-body to sound like a C5 with borla straight pipes. From my understanding "borla" straight pipes setup is just LT's, x-pipe, and no mufflers but it sounds so sick on a vette. I've heard straight exhaust on an f-body and it sounds different for some reason???
Vette guys chime in if I'm wrong about this Borla straight pipe thing...

but yes, TDs in my opinion give more of a muscle car "rumble" sound (at least when you have it dumped it does) i've heard some good sounding ORY exhaust setups, but i'll never go back to a Y unless my clearance gets so bad that i have to.

I have finally finished the true duals project for my 1995 Z28. The entire system is stainless steel and was made from Magnaflow mandrel bent pipes.
Here are the specs:
Flowmaster 3" to 2.5" reducer cones
Magnaflow stainless (5) J-bends, (4) L bends and (1) 45 degree bend
Woolf aircraft (2) 2.5" ultra tight radius L bends
Magnaflow dual in/out (internal X) muffler
Magnaflow X-pipe
Magnaflow stainless dual oval tips
Dynomax stainless cutouts
QTP electric cutouts
Lots of stainless Accu-seal clamps
I designed the cutout pipes to be easily removed and replaced with catalytic converters should the want or need ever arise. Takes about 30 minutes to do this. Also the whole thing can be easily removed rather easily just like a catback.
All pipes are stainless MIG welded and ground smooth for a seamless look. I polished the rear pipes exiting the muffler to a very shiny finish as well.
The exhaust sound is deep with absolutely no signs of rasp, popping or machine gun sounds in the 2K RPM range like what I had with the old Borla catback and ORY pipe. The sound volume at idle, as well as WOT, is similar to any other catback. Definitely not overly loud unless you open the cutouts. Maybe this is due to the Magnaflow X-pipe up front and the internal X-pipe in the muffler. The exhaust waves should certainly be balanced with this setup.
Ground clearance is outstanding with the lowest point being ~5" off the ground. This is on the pipes just before they go over the axle. I have yet to bang a pipe.
I also managed to reuse all the factory exhaust hanger points to secure the new system. I only had to custom make one new hanger, just in front of the axle as well as the pair at the tips. There are also stainless O2 bungs welded into each reducer for easy hookup to the wideband O2 at the dyno.
Thanks to everybody who offered help and advice with this project. I could not be happier with the final results.
Here are the pics of the system uninstalled:

I'm actually curious, if the muffler has an internal x in it would the reduce the need for a cross-over pipe? I understand that you still want your crossover closer to the headers, but wouldn't it still be helping out balance and scavenging?

After completing our 455 cu. in. LS1 build, (another story) we wanted a 3" Stainless, true dual exhaust system, over the axle, with cats, and X-pipe.
We decided on KOOKS Custom Headers, on Long Island, NY, for the custom installation.
We met with George R at KOOKS and he designed the perfect system for us which included the above plus resonators, twin mufflers and Corsa tips.
The installation was done flawlessly with exceptional weld quality and incredible workmanship. Pictured below are some of the build and install photos.
We would like to thank Mr. Goerge KOOK, George R., George Jr., Larry and Geronimo for the time, effort and hospitality that was given to us while we were at KOOKS.
The sound is exactly what we wanted. The exhaust sound is deep, not raspy and is totally awesome.
If you would like additional pics send PM.
IF you are considering a system such as this, I would strongly recommend contacting George R. at KOOK Custom Headers.

would this work....using a 3" I pipe mated to a ORY, over the axle into an slp LM, then use the single chamber flowmasters mounted as yours are, having the tips installed directly to the mufflers........

Would of taken the pictures from on a lift but this is all I had to work with at time. 1 7/8 ARH, Straight 3" true dauls with magnaflow race series bullets dumped. I must say this sounds pretty good and would recomend it to anyone. Sorry I have no sound clips at the moment.

^^^ My set-up is very similar but different bullets and headers. Straight duals does sound good, but I worry that I am missing out on more power from the better flow of a H pipe. Thinking I'm gonna get one put in next summer.

if done correctly, TDs should make children run in fear for their life...
but yes, TDs in my opinion give more of a muscle car "rumble" sound (at least when you have it dumped it does) i've heard some good sounding ORY exhaust setups, but i'll never go back to a Y unless my clearance gets so bad that i have to.

How would you guys compare a LT/ORY/LM2 VS LT/TD's?
What would sound / price diff be?
I have been on LS1sounds but i dont really like it, 90 percent of the cars on there have a cam so its hard to justify what the car is going to sound like. This past weekend I heard a WS6 that had LT's/ORY/LM2 sound very good with no rasp. If its just as close to price and I dont have to deal with the ground clearance hassle and bending a bunch of tubes ....
Any suggestions??
Thanks!
