Default Oil pressure problem, or loose nut behind the wheel???

Hey guys...

Have a 99 Z28 with 51K on the clock....take a peek at the photos below..this is hot idle psi. All internals are 100% bone stock, any mods are in the sig....

There is no wild swings in pressure, and when you hammer it the pressure jumps up to 40 plus psi.

Is this a sign of trouble, or am I making an issue out of nothing?

I also have a 99 z28. On a cold days the pressure at idle was 40 to 60 at 1500. But on days that it gets in the 90s my pressure will shift down to 20 at idle to 40+ at 1500. Both of these reading are with the temp at 210 on the motor. With mine it seem to be control by the external temp. I would like to know if this is normal also. Oh and my car has 112K on it and runs like a champ.

Outside of the milage, my car does the exact same thing....cold psi @ idle is 40psi...once it hits 210 then it drops to 20.

I have seen many motors with 20psi at a hot idle and 90% of them are still runing to this very day. I have had a brand new 346 from a vendor on here make 23psi at a hot idle brand new and we spray the hell out of it. Dont worry about it

My car would do that at a hot idle. It's been like that for the past year. Just make sure it doesn't get lower and it goes up with the rpms.

I'm going to give that a shot...I didn't think I did any damage to it when I swapped the LS6 intake on, but you never know. I bought the car from the orginal owner and he had every single piece of maintence record from day one.

The only reason I even ask is because my 02' Avalance has 40 psi @ idle hot...

those sensors are VERY easy to mess up.

Also does anyone know where i can get one. I'm going to do that when i put my ls6 intake on.

No worries man....I was actually just looking up the sending unit on autozone myself at the moment

It's worth a shot....I'll swap it out and report back in!

You can get a special socket at auto zone to make this task easier. It is in a bad spot and the socket is well worth the price for it as compaired to the trouble without it.

hmmm... I figured you'd have to take ur intake manifold off to do this job.

so you can replace the sensor pretty easily with this special socket from autozone?

might have to do this!

I have the carb style intake when I changed mine, plus I had the air injection system removed so I can not respond correctly of you have an oem style intake and egr/air system. I remember the top cover under the intake was in the way of a standard deep socket, and the oil sending unit socket fit correctly. I bet you still have to pull either the intake or the egr/air valve off to gain access to it.
