My LS1 is not a LS1

My LS1 is not a LS1
OK, I bought a used LS1 out of a wrecked T/A. I could see it had 317 heads. I started tearing it down today and discovered the block is a 6.0L iron block. I know some people like these because you can bore them and get more CI. I was going to get a set of 243 heads and a LS6 intake for my LS1, don't know now. Any suggestions from all you gearheads out there. I am putting it in a classic truck-street rod, not a track car.

Definitely the LQ9 with 10:1 compression ratio. Requires 92 Octane and weighs 416lbs. Produces 347 HP in stock form. 6.0 liter displacement
The LS1
Displacement = 5.7 L. / 346 CID
Bore x Stroke = 99mm x 92mm / 3.90" x 3.62"
Compression Ratio = 10.1:1
Horsepower = 335 HP @ 5,200 RPM (out of Fbody)
Weight is 425 lbs
Looks to me that the only downside to the block would be cooling efficiency. I know when I swapped in my LQ4 I had to go with a high flow water pump otherwise when idling in 90 plus heat the car would want to overheat. The heatsoak would cause problems without it. I swear I thought the Iron block was 90lbs heavier but GM says no. Odd to me.

OK. Maybe i shouldve been more specific.
To the OP.
You went to the junk yard, or where ever to buy and LS1 from a wrecked car. what you got was a 6.0 motor. lol.
So you got more then what you bargained for.
is that better Zbinkley??
i was referring to the fact that he was after a 346ci motor with 241 heads and got a 364 ci motor with 317 heads.
so, with that said, IMO, he got more then what he was looking for.
i would be ecstatic to get one of those in place of an ls1

The 4.0" bore gives you much better head options. On a budget get some L92 heads and a L76/L92 intake and you have a great bang for the buck. They are more finicky about the cam than a cathedral head but the right combo will beat a budget cathedral setup everytime.... The increased compression of the LQ9 is a big bonus too. You lucked out my friend.....

So a 6.0 truck motor is worth more than an LS1? I would agree with your statement if it was maybe an LS2. I understand a lot use the iron 6.0 to make power with but from what I have read you can pick one up for a lot cheaper than an LS1. Depends on what he paid for it I guess.

i was thinking the same thing when i typed it. LS1s go for less then the LQ motors in my part. Atleast at my local LKQ.
i could pick up ls1 for around 800, but LQ4/9 go for around 1200 here.
