Ok installed a LS6 crate engine, with custom cam. I had to reuse my stock oil pan and pickup tube. When its cold it holds 45psi unless it surges due to cam. But when its gets hot around 35 idle. Is this right? i know my LS1 ran around 40 hot@ idle. Also when I installed my NEW oil pump o-ring with motor out of car us just turned motor upside down. put the oring in the pump with little oil around o-ring. then slid the pickup in then tightened the 10mm bolt down till it was flush with pump. This proper installation?

thats close enough, if you had a leaky o ring you either would have 0psi or maybe 5 or 10 occaisionally. Id say run a little heavier oil if youd like the needle to be nice and high. If this gives you any idea my cammed '00 ls1 runs about 38 psi at idle hot 50 psi at idle cold and 65-70 psi at high rpm hot.

Yeah the oil pressure stay constant doesnt go up or down any. Just drove it to the muffler shop and crusing@ 1600 rpms gauge shows 45psi. And when stopped hot idling 32-35lbs. Has 5w-20 and a purlator filter for break in. going to change oil and filter in 100 miles. Probably run 10w-30 and delco filter!

Why do you have 5 20 in the engine? You realize thats NOT reccomended for your engine? I'd get that changed ASAP!
I hate to break this to you but you installed the oring wrong, you need to pull it back apart and do it right https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ring-pics.html
The oring goes on the tube 1st.

i dont think you messed the oring up no. you did it the worng way yes, but you wouldnt have enough pressure if it was seriously hurt. i think your slightly low pressure could be the weight of oil you have in it. toss some 30 weight in and try again

I'm not sure what planet you guys are from that you think its ok to put the oring into the pump then put the pick up tube into it. Honestly if it were mine it wooood be getting pulled apart and properly assembled.

good thing for him its not yours then isnt it
. Idk why youre getting so hot, and chewing this guy out. He did it backwards sure, but on a stand by hand with the tube not bolted down. He did it the way he thought he could do it best. This oring is a topic of extreme interest across the ls community. Ive had to replace one myself and did mine the right way. If he has 35 or so psi with a 20 weight oil the pickup sounds like its fine. OP its up to you if you want to chase it.

it shouldnt be different, seriously youre still well within the right range. Id run a good synthetic oil (MB1/penz plat etc.) and a delco or I personally prefer a wix filter. I have a feeling with a 30 weight your pressure will be where you want it
