Hey Martin, hopefully you can help me out here I just got my parts installed on my car prc 5.3 heads and your sns stage 2 cam sounds great! But...my tuner is having problems tuning the car to get it to idle. Its a 6 speed car and when I throw it in neutral and come to a stop the ilde drops down to about 400 rpm bounces back up to 900 then back down and dies. We cracked the throttle plate open a little bit more and reset the tps it seemed to help for a little bit but its doing the same thing again. Can you offer me or him any words of advice?

That's the most difficult part of the tune to get right.

Little dated now, but may have something that will make your tuner go "Ah ha!"

tell him to look at his Underspeed/overspeed and throttle cracker tables

tell him to run the idle config as well

What closed and open spring pressures, type and spec springs do you recommend for the torqueMAX Stage 2 ? Regular and mild lobe.
If you were designing a cam with the characteristics of the torqueMAX series but was able to use stock LS6 springs how would it measure ?
150lbs. on the seat, 400-420lbs. open. The BTR Platinum spring kit or the PAC 1521 and a few of the new PAC Hot Rod Series springs would work as well.

Those are some very solid results! I would of liked to of seen the graph on SAE correction as well to compare to the STD numbers, but nonetheless Bravo!

What all is done to your car? I know it's cam only, but what consists of those modifications? What year is it?

It sounds to me like it needs more running air flow. If an engine has too much running air flow it will idle hang and not come down in rpm to an idle. If it has too little it will tend to want to stall out when it comes back to an idle and while idling.

Underspeed/overspeed timing can also affect this as well as can the IAC motor tables. It will take some playing with to get it right. I don't do the tuning at our shop and I don't consider myself a tuner, so try and find someone that does this everyday to guide you to what you may need to do!

I bet it does! That thing hasn't even rolled over on itself yet at 6500rpm!!! If your car is an 02 or newer I'd twist that thing's guts out to 7200rpm and take advantage of all of that power.

7200rpm??? How long are you expecting the sns stage 3 to carry the power? I have mine set at 6800rpm right now and hopefully soon I can get on a dyno and see where power drops off.

Seeing as how it hasn't even begun to roll over in the slightest bit at 6500rpm I guarantee it holds power to within 10-15rwhp of 455 by 7200rpm. That's a power curve that will scoot a Vette down track to a cam only record if the owner was so inclined to do so...hehehe....

You're selling yourself short at 6800rpm IMO Ross. Try a 7200rpm limiter with a 6800rpm shift point.

Dammit Martin,

you have me having bad dreams about fly cutting!!!! Although when I am finished, the little 347 turns into a 427 so not all is bad..LOL

I figure me fly cutting pistons will go something like this..

And then it will be like!

Cheers,

Q

I'm in the same boat!! I'm really thinking about pulling the heads and flycutting so I can put in the stage 3 but I really don't want to do all that work again...

I know, I'm here stationed in Germany and I haven't gotten a chance, I have the mild version of the SNS Stage 3 but I will see what I can do, It pulls really hard even with a tune repository from a similar cam but I tweaked it a little, I've pushed my car in the German Autobahn about 170mph and still had room for more but it's scary, LOL!!! I'll see if I can put a video one of this days.
