I have the stock 241's on my 02 WS6. My buddy owns a machine shop and machines for a living, but doesn't primarily work on car parts. If I asked him to port these heads for me, what would be required of him or what questions should I ask him that would qualify or disqualify him from the job?

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback guys. I was just gonna go for it cuz it'd be cheap, but I don't want a shitty port job. I'll just wait til I can get some ported 243's at the minimum.

I know a lot of people jump right up to the 243, but Advanced Induction HC 219cc 241's make killer power. Puts them close with the 243. I believe they mention 440-470whp with one of their camshafts. http://www.advancedinduction.com/LSX...RGMLS1Head.php
AI can weld the chambers of the 317s and get high compression of them while also getting the flow of the fully ported 243 port.

Porting the heads doesn't really require a machine shop. Take a look at all the videos on Youtube, just about anyone with a grinder can port the heads.
Usually the machine work requires specialized equipment specific to the automotive industry, like cutting a valvejob on a Sunnen/Serdi/Rotler seat and guide machine.
