Default What is required of porting some 241's?

I have the stock 241's on my 02 WS6. My buddy owns a machine shop and machines for a living, but doesn't primarily work on car parts. If I asked him to port these heads for me, what would be required of him or what questions should I ask him that would qualify or disqualify him from the job?

If he has never ported heads before I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable letting him do it. Thats just me...

His lack of experience would disqualify him. LS heads are finicky and require a great deal of research and knowledge to port correctly.

I'd pony up the cash and send them to AI for their high compression CNC port job. Pretty good deal for some great heads.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback guys. I was just gonna go for it cuz it'd be cheap, but I don't want a shitty port job. I'll just wait til I can get some ported 243's at the minimum.

I know a lot of people jump right up to the 243, but Advanced Induction HC 219cc 241's make killer power. Puts them close with the 243. I believe they mention 440-470whp with one of their camshafts. http://www.advancedinduction.com/LSX...RGMLS1Head.php

For the same exact price, he can get HC 317s and make more power than the 219 HC 241s.

AI can weld the chambers of the 317s and get high compression of them while also getting the flow of the fully ported 243 port.

If he already has the 241s; I think AIs program would be worthwhile to look at. I definitely would not let a guy with no experience try to work over my heads.

Porting the heads doesn't really require a machine shop. Take a look at all the videos on Youtube, just about anyone with a grinder can port the heads.

Usually the machine work requires specialized equipment specific to the automotive industry, like cutting a valvejob on a Sunnen/Serdi/Rotler seat and guide machine.
