I've decided that auto transmission isnt for me. I'll be pulling it out and going back to the 6 speed .
I'm thinking maybe a magnum with 2.97 first gear ratio to make clutches live longer. Any opinions on this ratio?

It would that much easier to spin off of the line along with the 4.10's you have in the rear. Would depend on your tire height. Magnum would be a sweet transmission though! I just got my T-56 back, had a local shop rebuild my (built) trans. Which clutch would you run?

Not sure on clutch yet. Soft pedal for driving that will hold up to the power

I have reputable shop with a great warranty willing to buy it back at full price. No one's had the bad luck I have with them and just want to go back 6spd.

Sounds like some type of twin disc for sure.

I'd guess too much parasitic power loss and added weight.

I went automatic because I was going through a clutch every couple years.
I went through 5 automatics in 3years and less than 5000total miles.
If I go 2.97 first gear it should take some load off the clutch to get moving and also wont skimp on a clutch. I want a durable clutch with an easy pedal feel.
My rst clutch I had last drove great but died the first pass down the track behind my 6.0 @ 452 rwhp

In my opinion 6 speeds are clearly more fun to drive. The issues I have is that they are difficult to launch at the drag strip (very frustrating) and with a relatively heavy car the more power you have the more they break. I never ran slicks so that probably would help. I mostly had 1.9 - 2.0 60 foot times. There was a period that the car was launching well and I had a best 60 foot of 1.59 and ran a 10.55. It is mostly bog or spin. I broke mine once a long time ago and had it upgraded which included a viper output shaft. And then you need to but clutches. I intend to try a turbo on mine so I don't want stay with the 6 speed. Maybe in the beginning but I'd be easy on it. Obviously a magnum is stronger than the T-56 but a manual just takes too much abuse.

Holy cow! I know its a balancing act when it comes to big torque and traction. It's either the clutch or the trans that going to take the punishment. I'm installing an RXT that I had rebuilt. The ceramic material is pretty aggressive. Crazy that the RST only lasted one pass!

how does that rxt drive? Im still trying to decide on that but if I do the 2.97 first, a RST might hold up.

I will let you know in a week or so. Currently waiting on the machine shop to refinish the billet flywheel. I'm itching to try out the newly built T-56.

Few changes going on with the car. The transmission went out again after a short life.pump died within 60 miles of driving so we decided to pull it out and send back again.this time going non lock up. As I pulled it I found the reason is the converter didn't come set up for an Ls1. The pilot was to short and I didnt catch it.
Since im going non lock up, I sent the converter back to the company I bought from and they are buying it back.
I am working with FTI on a 8" converter if they can do one as they have never built one for a 4l80.

I have fought oil leaks on this motor in the valve covers and valley cover. I have a new valley cover on the way since mine had a hole put in to use a pcv valve. That is coming out and I just made a call to GZ motorsports. After talking about my build he recommended his pro kit as im at the max for his sportsman kit. At first when I built this motor I was interested in a pump but the thought of spending that much extra was to scary.
After fighting oil leaks on a 8000 rpm motor, it's a no brainer. Plus he said I'd pick up good power from the style rings used.
So converter is gonna be more aggressive and now a vacuum pump. And ordered 80# injectors to go e85/flex fuel.Gonna get nasty😁

The GZ pump should be a great match for that blistering 8,000 rpm! Look forward to reading more details.

Its another conversation piece for car shows I guess
I hate oil leaks and even though j found my leak and it's a simple fix i decided to just do it. When i go back to tune the car on the dyno it will be done and not still wanting a few things for later .
After this ,its cosmetic stuff to be done

Which injectors did you go with? I bought some deka 80#'s for my setup. I too need a vacuum pump. Everytime I drive WOT I can smell the oil coming out of the rear main! Already replaced the seal twice since I had the trans out but I know its the crank case pressure from my stroker 427.

Went to snake eater performance and ordered deka 80#. Should take my plug in and drop in. I may need to shim my fuel rails up a half inch though.
I went to the pro vacuum pump with the 12 a.n line on gz motorsports recommendation. I am tired of leaks down back of motor.
