IT can be done but its a tight squeeze the distributer on the back of intake is impossible to get to.There was a silver 4TH gen Camaro with 540 with fuel injection and N.O. it ran a like a 5.45 at about 125 mph it was just awsome, pulled the front wheels past the 60 ft mark, this is 1\8 mile of course.
I"d rather have a big cube ls1,it would eat that bigblock!!!

Did you guys see where Popular Hotrodding put a 572 GM crate motor in like a 2300 2nd gen Camaro racecar, it ran 9.92 or something like that,I wasn"t impressed,it may have been low 10"s.Bigblocks are dogs to keep running right. How about 5-6 mpg at $2.00 a gallon.

He cant be serious, MANY 550rwhp big blocks that could be DD, but 99% of BBC's in cars older men drive them as toys and dont WANT or need to drive them everyday because they are show cars..
would you WANT to drive a 550rwhp bbc EVERYDAY?

The car looks and sounds awesome but the turning radius isn't that great even with Draglite skinnies up front it has a hard time with tight turns. The ZL1 built by Wheel 2 Wheel has a custom k-member that allows them to run a fat tire up front and also maintain good enough handling to road race it. BIG $$$ though

There isn't even worth debating. BBC > SBC. There's no two ways about it.

Do you have a 550 rwhp bigblock?Have you seen one?Describe it to me 360 cc heads .260 @ .050 cam .700 lift ,13-1 cr 1100 dominator carb come on.Bigblocks are great in show cars, they look massive and powerful and they sound nasty. But can they run with a 427 gen 3 ?I"ll take a smallblock over a bigblock any day.A 427 smallblock will run within .010 of a 540 anyway in the same car, been proven and that was with the 90 lb hood taken off for the bigblock.

That motor should put about 600-650 horsepower to the rear wheels, and half the price of a Gen 3 427ci. The only Gen 3 motor i have seen making over 750 fwhp naturally aspirated was built by More Performace and it is damn near $30,000.
The LS1 is a kick *** motor no doubt, but horsepower to $$$$$ ratio, the BBC will always win.

A 408 ls1 ironblock will make as much hp as a 496 with aftermarket aluminum heads and the same basic cam specs.True or not??We have some die hard bb fans on here!

oh ya, and when comparing a 427BBC to a 427LS1. give me the money it takes to make a 427LS1 and with it i can build a 427BBC that will whoop that a$$ all day long, and still have money left over.

People are so proud of their LS1's that they'll say the damndest things ! An LS1 all things being equal couldn't run in the same county with an BBC on the best day it ever had. Period. My buddy's weekend cruiser/drag car is making 1400 hp out of a blown 509 on 18 psi, it'll take 30 psi ! Your not going to get anywhere close to that much power out of an LS1

the funny thing about a big block is the way it makes power.. yea it might only make 550 rwhp. but the torque numbers are usually bigger say 550 rwhp/620 rwtq whereas a ls1 is usually down in the tq number and the hp numbers are higher. this is a lil diff in a boosted ls1. but ya get what im sayin..the things working against a big block are , its weight with iron heads and the amount of torque it makes . usually a bit too much for drag radials.

Did you put it on a dyno? Running 11.30 in a 1st gen CAMARO about 3000 lbs is not 550 rwhp, you didn't have that much under the hood!!Good thing you shifted at 6000 cause any more and you have a spun main bearing or massive valve float from the heavy bb parts.A427 bb won"t run with a 346 ls1, your 454 wouldn"t run with a 346 ls1.You can"t build a 550 bigblock for less then 6 or 7 grand, you"ll spend 2 grand just on machinework! What cam did you have in that bad boy, prove me wrong!
