Largest cam on LS6 (yellow) springs?
Going to bolt on a set of GTO 243's with a mild home port job and the yellow springs, and I'm wondering how large I can go on the cam. I imagine either an LPE GT2-3, or something like those old comp 216/220 .535 cams would be ideal. Any ideas? It's a budget project so I'm looking for a cam that I can find used for around $200...
Thanks,
T

I know someone running a Comp 222/224 .566/.568 on a 112 LSA with those springs and no problems out to about 6,700 RPM. He got the cam from LPE if you want to check the specs.

I know a guy running a 218/221 .559 .569 on a 5.3 in an '05 Silverado. Springs have well over 30K on them with no shimming and he beats the hell out of that motor.With those mentioned durations and lifts you will be fine. If you start getting close to the .570 lift I would stay away from durations much over 220. Just my .02.

From what I understand, you can run a farely big cam for those springs and it will operate normally with very minimal to no valve float(Right?). But the real Question is the Life of the spring depending on which cam you throw at it. I'd be pretty uneasy about running anything like a 218/221 for 30k with ls6's.

Sorry Terry, I stand corrected. The cam he is running with those springs is www.Vincihighperformance.com "Trucker" cam. Its actually a little different than what I thought.
DUR @ .004" 278*/ 286*
DUR @ .050" 216*/ 224*
* LIFT .551/.551
OVERLAP 53*
LSA 115*
Like I said, this truck has had the living **** beat out of it for well over 30K and still runs like a champ.

TTT, do not look only at the lift, you can shim those "yellow" to handle much more than advertised, they can handle XE lobes .57x

Funny, when I posed this question I got answers 180* different than the ones posted here. I wanted to run LS6 springs with the MTI B1 (221/221 114 +2 .559/.559), and the general consensus was don't do it, the valves will float before it starts making power.

You could have to 230* lobes, one that's lazy and not so aggressive and easy on parts and get by with LS6 springs or, you could have a 230 lobe that is very aggressive (think high lift with short duration) and would not function properly (float the valves) with the LS6 springs.
