What GM oil pump is the recommended one now?

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to buy ported oil pump. If you are having oil pressure problems, buy a new GM pump. If you need more pressure, shim the bypass spring with a 150/1000ths shim. That is what I run in my World Challenge car.

ARE's units are blueprinted too. They say ported, which they may be, but I believe they have just uped the pressure. Maybe they ported them to deliver more volume but I think that word gets thrown around wrong. But that is speculation on my part.
All I know, is I purchased an ARE unit for my car. It goes in Friday.

I've been running the LS6/2001 pump in mine for about a year now. With 10W-30 my pressure maxes out at ~65psi. Warmed up at idle I never drop below ~40psi. These numbers are about 10psi higher than what I'd get with the stock pump in my 2000. With just the hotcam and stock heads this seems plenty adequate for me. When the time comes for me to upgrade to a more aggressive cam and heads I'll probably spring for one of the modified units, but for now I can't say anything negative about the 2001+ pump.

I just bought a 2002 pump for the motor i'm putting into my Z. I had a ported pump in the old one but I just don't see a reason to bother with it again. I pulled the spring and regulator out of the new one and cleaned everything and checked the bore. No reason it should ever have any problems.
