I recently purchased by 06 Impala SS with 70K Miles and thank the heavens above purchased a $400 'Factory Type' warranty for one year. I have only owned the car for about 4 months now and here is a list of the replacements I have encountered

Complete GM Used Certified Transmission
Water Pump
Water Pump Housing
Radiator

Total Cost: 4600~
My Cost: 850~

Symptoms of my transmission were slipping/rev and clunk/random gear downshift
So I could say that you could add me to this list...

Just as a note the car is stock and I dont sit there and do burn outs and I had the transmission fluid changed at 46K miles. Very disapointed in this tranny and it only lasted around 50K
Added you both to the list.

Let us know how it goes. And maybe take some pics, because there's a tranny rebuild in all our futures.

I just picked up an 08 GXP yesterday with 30k on the clock. Good thing I purchased an extended warranty. I wish I had stumbled upon this thread before I bought the car. I may have spent the extra coin for a G8...

I have an 07 Grand Prix GXP, and if I drive the car a few miles slowly creeping up in gears, not pedal to the metal, the car runs. If I press WOT the car will stay in first gear and when it is time to shift into second, the car will coast to a stop. I have to turn it off, wait about 20 seconds to a minute, then turn the engine again and it will drive again. Happens constantly, so that the car now just sits in the parking lot, i just run it around the block every two weeks to charge the battery. TEP tranny mailed today from Dave to replace it, because I have the cartuning turbokit here waiting to be put on, but im not doing it without a working trans. Have not taken the tranny in to be looked at, after seeing all the problems people have, just got the TEP one to be safe.

I can do that? Im gonna replace the Trans anyway, so it doesnt matter right? The car will switch to second, and sometimes third, basically if i try to go over about 40mph it messes up. but if i press the gas to the floor is when it has problems at around 28mph, or the car just coasts to a stop. I posted pics finally.

You won't be disappointed with TEP's work. Dave is the hands-down king of rebuilding these trannys, so you shouldn't have anymore problems once you swap it in.

Added you to the list.

What are you going to do about repairing/replacing it?

got a question. I noticed the other day while driving that when my car went to shift into 4th gear it seemed to gain maybe 300-500 rpm before shifting. It was after driving about 10 miles on the highway. Usually my car has really firm feeling shifts but not this time.

That was the first time i noticed it and still have powertrain warranty until the end of august. My car has 38k on it and i have only put about 1400 on since i bought it.

sound like i might have a major problem or might develop a bigger problem?

That doesn't sound normal, but it's hard to say what it is. What were the circumstances under which it happened? What kind of driving? More importantly, is it repeatable, meaning, can you make it do it under the right conditions?

just normal acceleration from a stop light on the highway up to 65 or so. I happened rite before i let off the accelerator. I noticed somthing didnt feel 100% right and looked down at the tach fast. I will have to drive it out of town this week and see if i can get it to do it again. but i was jw if it sounded like a problem that had been brought up before.

Sounds like you're describing a "flare" in between gears. Are you still under warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get a tech to ride with you.

If not, then you'll need to find someone reputable to take it to so you can get a diagnosis.
