Yeh, dropping the cradle can throw the alignment off. Ask any shop about a cradle alignment. Notching the frame an 1/8th of an inch to get the bolt to clear is nothing at all.

This just sours me from ever trying/hoping to pull this motor for some future mods. Most likely my car will just stay stock and I will build something a little easier to work on(as in older).

Gm made it easy see those alignment holes on the passenger side front and rear. If you stick 1/2 extentions in there and tighten the subframe you'll be dead on every time. It's pretty hard to really jack the alignment up on the subframe end unless your bushings are screwed

this is the part that was notched, its an 1/8th inch sliver of metal

and this pic is from earlier in the day but we are basically stuck on getting the belt on, i cant get a ****** thing into the idler to rotate it forward, the manual shows the belt tool working like cake yet my belt tool either doesnt have enough clearance with a small extension, or isnt reaching in far enough without slipping off.

Thanks for the pics...

So do we need that notch mod for taking the engine out top or bottom?

Also, is the ls2 cam single bolt?

That belt tool they show is like 90 bucks, and I read its almost exclusive to this motor. Is that what you used or did you have another model? If so it might not work. I read here someone used a clamp(big clamp) to compress that dampener next to the balancer .

You don't have to, but there is alot of little finicky **** that you have to plan out in advance or you'll be stuck removing the engine again, for instance, you can work the water manifold off while the engine is in the car by lifting and moving stuff around, but you HAVE to put the water manifold back on before you drop it in (this is all assuming you arent dropping the sub frame) otherwise you will not be able to get the bolts past the strut tower as they are 3-4" long. Don't know about whether the ls2 cam is single bolt, but IMO if your gonna have the engine out, a bigger cam (assuming your deleting the DoD physically) wouldnt hurt either.

Yeh i have a universal serp belt removal tool with various attachements, the one your talking about is exclusive, it has a much longer 1/2" end on it to make it the right size to fit in that small area. I just saw the clamp trick on youtube and gonna be giving that a whirl.

Wasn't sure if you left the old ones in just so nothing got in there and the new ones could brake during the motor install. Still haven't changed my 8 plug yet. Got my arm stuck trying twice, not taking off the coil packs to do it either. That thing can wear itself out. Might let a buddy have a crack at it, his forarms are a little smaller lol .Fun fun fun

take off the upper torque mount, and rock the car back and forth, when the car is at its apex of forward motion, stab the ebrake, it will lock the motor tilted completely forward :p

Whats this you say? If that works that will be awesome because that thing eats at me everyday thinking about . This weekend for sure. Thanks. I couldn't get that belt off using my serp belt remover either. I had a pulley that was making noise. I grabbed that belt and just pulled hard until it slipped off the upper pulley. Damn near pulled a tendon getting it back on that way lol.

That was panic strength, I needed the car back running asap. Should have seen my arm stuck, that was some funny ****. I thought about calling my wife into the garage for some help but she would have taken a pic for sure lol.
