dilema: nitrous or supercharger for LT1

Hello again everyone. I originally posted, "Which supercharger ?". I'm at a dilema. My trustworthy mechanic is asking why I want a supercharger on a 14 year old LT1 stock motor. He says 6-8lbs boost if fine if using a SC, however why not a 100 or 125 shot, starting at 2000rpm. He says the cost is about 1/3rd the supercharger setup, and will be just as good for a DD. The car already has 373's and a 2700-2800 stall. I plan on keeping the car unless I can sell it for like 5K$, which is unlikely. With that said, would a supercharger be "safer" than nitrous, or are both timebombs waiting to happen?..........

either can cause an issue
I would vote N20 for the bang for the buck factor + it is more friendly then boost for an LT1 if used wisely.
100-150 tops and you should be good for awhile with supporting mods
intank fuel pump
timing retard / ignition like a MSD digital 6 or Mallory 685
TR6 or 7 plug

Supercharger you would have to run at real low boost if you want that motor to stay together. With the spray you should have no issue if the precautions are taken. Window switch, TR6 plugs, walbro pump with racetronix harness, some timing pulled and do not, DO NOT spray below 3k RPMS.
If you want the power all the time build the motor for a supercharger. If you just throw a supercharger at it as it sits, even at 6 lbs. of boost its not going to last very long. Forget about running 8 lbs. on a stock motor, not going to happen.

Also what other mods do you have currently? Do you have the supporting mods you should have like full exhaust? How about a good rear end? I really wish I had stuck at least a 12 bolt in this thing by now, so let us know what all you have done. I'd build from the back to the front, new rear end, good suspension, etc... If I had found ls1tech years ago that's what I would have done.

there was a thread not to long ago with the red formula pulling a wheel running some high 12 i think because he has a good rear and tranny, otherwise the car is stock.

i have had them all and by far N2O was more fun however more costly in the end, 40.00 per bottle and i was roughly 3-6 bottles a week thats almost 1250.00 per year for bottle refills.....
you can have a ton of fun with N2O![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
on the other hand a blower is always there,i had an increase of fuel mileage with my old blower back in the day and it was really a nice addition to the performance.
so if you can deal with having lo psi situations from time to time, don't mind having to refill a few bottles at a time then nitrous is for you.
if you want power on tap with very little upkeep blowers/superchargers and turbos are for you.
