Question What is the best alternative intake manifold for LTx?

I wish there were more interests in alternative intake manifolds in both the LTx and B-Body Community. We could definetly use a much longer intake runner to get more low and midrange torque out of motors. Sorry 3" from plenum to intake port is NOT the way to go to produce decent torque numbers. I think the LT1 produces a nice flat torque curve and good torque numbers inspite of itself and its intake not because of it.

So in your opinion what is the best and cost effective intake on the aftermarket, short of fabbing up a sheetmetal intake to put on a LTx motor for a high performance street Impala SS/Caprice?? Stealthram? GMPP Ram Jet 350 intake manifold?? A converted single plane carb intake??? Or even Edelbrock's new Pro-Flo XT??

In my reseach people on the forums mentioned something about "cutting and welding" the stock LT1 intake but they did explained what that meant. Can you please enlighten me of what that entails and is it worth the effort???

Stock Ported, thats the best option for 98% of people building these cars. Don't get yourself caught up in what you read. The LT1/4 intake ported will take you sub 9 seconds before it's really a 'restriction'.

+1 for stock ported, unless you are building an all out drag car with an extreme setup there is no need to upgrade. If there was a better alternative it would have surfaced within the last 10 or so years

I am sure the factory intake will be all I will need.....maybe even in unported form, but I'm just curious to know what the Pro-Ram is? I tried using the search function and only found it mentioned with no description....or threads where I couldn't even find it mentioned at all. The search function here really frustrates me sometimes.

It's a carb intake.
The fast 92 or 102 is a good intake as long as you bolt an lsx under it.

The cutting and welding sounds like how people cut the top of the intake off to port it and then weld it together. As far as the other intakes I see them a lot on third gens. On LT1s unless you are making well over 500 there is no need to upgrade

edelbrock proflo modify for lt1 coolant flow and come up with something for the throttle body.. it also has the distributor hole in the rear of the intake.

if the vortec distributor doesnt work, i'm not certain it will but it does send a 1x cam signal.

you would use this to plug the hole in the back of the distributor and do away with the composite oilpump drive housing..

It would be best if you knew things worked before recommending them to people who are going to run out and buy it based on what you said.

the very first line states that i'm not 100% sure.. if it doesnt maybe i need to go back to school..

i bet the dummy oilpump drive will.. seen it used on a gen1 with a front mount belt drive distributor on it..

If someone read post 12 ("...ditch your optispark and run an accel vortec distributor ") and not 14 ("i'm not certain it will "), they might have missed that you were not sure it would work. Just trying to keep the masses less confused. Of course, what fergymoto said is quite appropriate.
