I agree and the reason I want to see the underside.

We will be working on one for my car shortly with a lid conversion.

I like how you did that, instead of attatching the lid to the support it sits down in where it would go. Very inventive!

Well done, killer setup! You did a ton of work there, be proud of what you accomplished. It looks OEM!

Nice! That looks too good. Ive never been interested in this swap until now when I saw yours. Do you guys think this would work with the stock firebird/formula hood?

ALL of my clearance issues were with the lid itself, so that is what you will need to research. I am sure there are plenty of posts about that on this site already, but a properly modified LS1 radiator support should fit under any hood, as it is barely any taller than the stock one.

Doesn't hot air enter the filter from the heat coming off the radiator?

Great write-up btw

No. In fact i am still trimming the bottom of my hood. I just had to walk away from the project for a while because my back was killing me from all the trial & error i had to do. Its going to fit though, my hood was only a half inch or so away from closing nothing done. But like i said in an earlier post, all the clearance issues are with the lid itself, none are with the radiator support.

It probably will a little bit when the car is standing still. I dont expect it to be an issue at speed though and in any case ill gladly trade off a little intake air temp for a design with no 90 degree turns. The gains others have posted are hard to argue with.

yes.. I agree with your statement above. The IATs might be a little higher idling or in traffice, but once rolling should be just fine.

I plan to do a similar lid conversion with the addition of a sealed custom ram air by Chr1313.

We have seen almost 3 mph with the addition of a Chrs1313 RA kit. We seen 1.5-2 mph over a SLP kit on my fathers 01 Z/28.

if you do not use the A/C ditch it and take advantage of that lid conversion
