if i had the extra $200 bones sitting around I'd be doing it. I'll have to add that to my to-do list.

And that reminds me of the best thing about this lid project. When I get the money for the CAI i just sold, ill have done the entire thing for for free. My only investment was in the lid and the fernco connectors, the rest I got from friends who had upgraded their LS1s and just had the parts sitting around in the garage.

You can make a ram air set up with the AC condesor in place. It'll just be thinner at the top where it comes into the lid.

Doesnt that design block the air coming in to the radiator.. I mean, im sure you'll get cold air to your intake, but what about the air going to your radiator... its like putting a plastic bag infront of your radiator... IMO

Not at all.. He didn't put anything in front the radiator (unless I missed something ). The filter and lid sit on top of the radiator and support (across).

I'm assuming you are referring to the ram air. The cars seen no issues with cooling since the lower air dam still directs air through the radiator. There is a gap between the RA and Radiator just as there would be with the factory plastic shrouding. The shrouding can be made to work if you want to take the time time to trim it.

also as noted by Beaflag xxxx A/C can be kept with a smaller RA kit

There's a lot of options with the ram air setups. Search around and you'll find a lot of them. Another one is the Sux2bu ram air with dryer hose.

I am wondering how much different the design will have to be to fit a lid mounted in the core support instead of the standard position like all the LS1 guys run.

i am really thinking about deleting my AC now.

we will have to tweak the design some i am sure, but i am confident it will be just as nice, and give the exact same gains for the LT1 crowd...

As for the cooling comment, i designed the ram air to be about a 1/2 inch off of the bottom radiator support so air can actually hit the back side of the unit and be forced into the radiator...after having the condensor out of the way with the ac gone the car says at 180* all day long...so i dont even think that gap is needed...it is getting plently of air considering i even removed the black radiator deflector off the bottom of the car to see if it would help with aerodynamics and still never put it back on a year later and still have the same temps...

I might try to come up with something on my own later this spring but im gonna need a lot of to crawl under the car 200 times sizing that up... we'll see. One way or another im gonna make it happen.

and are you saying you have the air dam removed? Im assuming that must be on an LS1 because LT1s will get pretty toasty without them, its normal for our cars to warm up after just a minute or two in traffic. If i have to delete AC to get enough air through the radiator I wont be hesitating

My biggest fear is that trimming that notch into the radiator support (the metal one) will hurt the strength of the front end.

Where's a good place to find one of the plastic covers?
