Looking at a new short block
What company would you guys recommend for a new 355 shortblock? I have talked to the guys at Golen and they seem to know their stuff. I am just looking for other options.
Thanks,
Ryan

I was just gonna say pay me, since I have two blocks and a bunch of parts laying around in the garage......but either way, getting one from even jasper if you talk to them. Otherwise just go get a motor from the junkyard and take it to a local builder and have them do it. Then you don't need to do anything but put the heads on it....if you even want to do that. Otherwise you pay someone else to do it.

I know who does the guys in fronts machine work, they are a very very good shop. Just not very timely(not a problem, generally). The guy we are building this for is wanting something quick.

If you want cheap and fast put a junkyard shortblock in it.
The good shops are backed up because they take the time to do it RIGHT and have a lot of customers who appreciate that.
Fast often means lack of attention to detail. which means down on power and reliability so you get to do it all over again later. Not saving any time or money.

We are very very picky and pay very close attention to detail. It looks like we are just going to build on for him.

From the results I have seen from Golen online I would NOT recommend you go that way, I have worked on a car with a TPIS stroker with TPIS AFRs. Been reliable so it has that on the Golen motors BUT it is weak and sounds literally like an old powerstroke.
Far as I know AI does not stock ready to go shortblocks.
When I said "junkyard shortblock" I did not mean they are junk, quite the contrary, I HAVE used a junkyard shortblock over going with someplace like Golen or TPIS.
I would flat out recommend a junkyard shortblock over a Golen motor. I know my opinion there is not the majority opinion, but then again my results are not in line with the majority either so maybe, just maybe I am not wrong.

As far as I know the Golen block and others are built to order so it would probley take about the same time and cost more than having a local shop build one. You would probley be better to have the local shop build one using the stock crank with what ever rods and pistons the customer wants to use. That way should be cheaper save him some money and maybe a little more in your pocket.
