Why build/keep an LT1?

I gotta admit, the LS1 has spoiled me.
Reusable gaskets on most parts (except the heads). Oil-free valley (no intake leaks). Coil per cylinder. Lighter (I can pick up the block by myself - and I'm a Grover armed weakling). I was cursing the intake manifold RTV when I had to clean off a fresh batch from my LT1 recently...
I contemplated going LS1 in my 94Z. Just couldn't do it tho. I have probably half the parts to make it happen (everything I've pulled off the '98). But I just had to stick with the ol LT1 (albeit enhanced to a 383 size). Probably because converting, and making everything work 100%, would have been too much of a pain in the rear. I look forward to driving the old girl soon. She's been on the lift for a while now, just about ready to come off...

i say both are the sweetest cars around, and before the ls1, the lt1 ruled the streets alone. it's just good to see owners of both taking pride in their cars and caring to modify and enjoy them. everyone has an opinion and it's just good to see that people still care enough about these cars to argue...soon we'll have people arguing over ls2 vs. lt1 and we'll be comparing 396 lt1's to '09 cars with 427's and nitrous. gotta love hot rodding tradition. the bottom line...ls1 cars are the motivation for lt1 guys to go faster.

We've got both in our "stable"...Mine's in my sig and my wife has a 2000 Camaro SS...They are just two different animals...My car is violent and in your face....The LS1 is more linear in power, smooth, even....We'll keep both, BUT I'm sure I'll never give up on the ol LT1...Nobody expects an LT1 to be fast...Certainly not the new C6 Z06 owner who got it handed to him last week coming home from work! Long live the underdog!

love the front end of the 93-97 and the lack of respect that comes with it from LS1 car owners and even some mustang guys, especially the terminators. its all good tho, will see what i go run with the 300 shot im puttin on it too

but for real, i love the way my carlooks and I love the fact that the car's clor is very rear (where i live atleast), and i always loved the way LT1's look.
I almost forgot, the under dog effect.

it comes down to prep really, and tuning or lack there of when it comes to
lifting heads

I like being the underdog
Redneck put it best, I don't care if it's an LT, LS or Mustang, hotrodding is hotrodding at the end of the day. When mine blew the engine 2 yrs ago and sat their dormant while I pondered & saved I considered a black WS6 T/A but PEPPE was sentimental in that my Mom went shopping with me 5 yrs ago when I bought it...so I decided to fix it up. She loves riding to Sonic in the revived beast now, nothing like 500 N/A ponies to the ground in an LT1
I have nothing against LS1s though...

Reading this thread has put me in a better mood.
From what I gather on here, the only nay-sayers are usaully young adults who got an LS1 for Christmas, and never rode in a nice LT1.
And when they do hear a story of an LT1 winning, thiers always excuses, like " bad driver, or he might have had a bottle"
But when you hear it from guys that have both, they will tell you how it is.
Im not buying an LS1 because its not that big of a jump for me.
I want to get a Dyno-Flo Forged kit, put on 12 pounds of boost and show the nay-sayers the true meaning of what the LT1 truly is, a beast waiting to be uncaged.

Best reasons would be to keep fleet happy and protect the investment.
Reason #1 - 1997 Formula LT1 - 9.74 @ 135.80
Reason #2 - 1995 Firehawk, my daily driver
Reason #3 - 1994 Z28 Convertible, wife's daily driver

because you can't go 8.00s like Rick with a stock block ls1. Plus stock for stock the ls1 are not much faster considering the cylinder head from the factory out flows an lt1 by far. Put a good head on the lt1 and say bye bye!

I love my LT1 because:
- I traded my 96 saturn 4 door and 2000 bones cash straight up, no questions asked. stupid brother...
-The sound an LT1 makes is ridiculous. LS1's with exhaust only give me a hummer, not a boner.
-I own a 25th Anniversary and it's pretty. Plus, 93-97 Trans Ams are so sleek and sexy....
