Post up your BIGGEST mistake working on your LTx lets hear 'em guys! well for me...... stripping out the damn exhaust manifold bolt- it was the last one too (offf courrssee) and was in the tightest spot (offf courrrssee) and was RIGHT NEXT to the downtube making it impossible to get a normal socket on. set me back an entire day. eventually I had to buy some stud removal sockets and got that @#$@!% out.

when i installed my Lt4 Hotcam into my old 96 Z, i didnt really take my time to get the oil pan back on correctly, so i had to get it removed and put back on.
when i rebuilt the engine in the same car, i broke quite a few bolts while assembling the engine ( air tools.. ). I also didnt use all the bolts for the motor mounts. i didnt route the wires correctly around the headers, therefore i had to buy a OTVC kit a few months later because the header had burnt through my wires. thats about it...

I was reinstalling my heads after replacing a head gasket and I dropped a small bolt down the oil passage on the back of the block. It was in the hole and I tried to grab it with a pair of pliers and "drop" to the bottom of the pan and it wouldn't come out. So I had to pull the motor, flip it over and take the oil pan off.

I didnt check the bearings in a used 383 short block I bought. that one spun a rod bearing.
Another costly mistake was going with mac mids when I should have just gone long tubes right off the bat.

I stripped a manifold bolt once on my old car and while tightening my header bolts on this one my dad dropped 2 header bolts and they got stuck down in my collectors where you cant get them out. Finally came out after a couple months of trying new magnets and claw type things. It was quite embaressing pulling up to a stop light with the loudest rattle in the world.

taking my exhaust off i snapped almost every bolt(air tools) and then when i went to take the o2 sensors off broke those. havent had a horror story yet but im sure ill have one in the near future.

Not a huge mistake, but was helpin a friend change to thinner three layer head gaskets, new pushrods and lifters. I thought he had checked everything out when he bought it, and didn't think to check valvetrain geometry. Once we had it all back together it didn't have any compression. We eventually just did a quick shim job to get it running until he bought the proper length pushrods.
Same car, year later, snapped a flywheel bolt because SOMEONE (not me) read the torque spec as foot lbs instead of inch pounds. I knew better, but still over torqued the bolt and snapped it in half. So lucky to be able to get a drill up in there to drill a pilot, then put a reverse thread on her and back it right out. LUCKY.
No big mistakes on my 95 Formula yet, but I haven't dug into the engine much yet. I'm still tossing around ideas and trying to plan out what I want to do.

broke a manifold bolt flush to the head when putting in my headers then i broke the easyout in the head. took like 8 hourse to drill and get out the bolt an rethread it and we didnt take out the head.
