New LT1 Intake Manifold update: New plan, new #s
#121
Well, we hit our first speed bump. Good news is we have established a verbal with Holley to purchase in bulk and get good discounts on the HSRs. In return will be passed down. Problem is Holley cant get us the HSRs till December. The HSRs we have in stock have been sold to mostly L98 owners and a few have already had us making LT1s.(The LT1s are for modded vettes)
We didnt expect the L98s to sell like the way they did. It has consumed just about all our free time. The orders are starting to slow down a bit though, But thats where we are. Things just aren't moving fast enough.

There any numbers yet from the Vette 'pilot' vehicles? Hopefully a stock-to-HSR comparison

We are just about finished with a tester. We have a guy with a LT1 firebird, that is stock down to the manifolds, to test it. Problem being its been sitting in his backyard for the last 3 years and doesn't run. He said it just needs an opti but I doubt thats it. We'll tow it to our shop if we have too but we will give him some time first. We just dont have a very good selection of stock LT1s in the area.

The HSRs for the L98 are currently for sale. Its modified to the point where he can still use his stock distributor and will fit under the hood. We have done several tests with the L98 version of the HSR over the stock TPI and have gotten 40-52rwhp over the TPI and pushed the peak power to 5600-5800 rpm. These tests were also done on stock motors. We had a guy dyno his 383 with dart heads and a GM 847 cam and claim the HSR from us gave him 64.3rwhp over his TPI. I cant vouch for those #s cause we weren't there.

The only way would be to go with a whole new plenum. More of a tunnel shape than a shoe box. Problem with a tunnel shape is it increases height and normally isnt as wide enough to cover from east to west. Now to keep the shoe box and mesh the front so it can accommodate a gen III/IV tb is another project.

We had a '88 L98 vette come in with a stock 350 block, PP heads(dont know flow #s), a hotcam and shorty headers. He also had a miniram. With the HSR, he pulled 315rwhp@6100rpm. The miniram pulled 298rwhp@6100rpm. Now the miniram kept pulling after 6100 but needed a couple extra hundred rpm to catch up. The torque wasnt even close. The HSR pulled 338rwtq@4300rpm to the minirams 311rwtq@4800rpm. The HSR we used was unported.
The guy came to the conclusion that the HSR was better fitted for his setup and he's using it now. Ive seen some other dyno graphs on this subject as well. One came out having the HSR out powering the miniram 334-303 on a H/C setup and torque also going to the HSR 349-315. What I look for is consistency on the #s. Just about every result between the 2 I've seen comes out in favor of the HSR. And our test was no different. With some porting to the HSR, the hp numbers should be higher for a similar set up.
Thats what gave us hope for the LT1, being the miniram is nothing more than a better flowing LT1 intake.
