Default I need tactical vest advice...

Ok so I am in search of a tac vest to go over my IBA. I was pointed to blackhawk.com by a Ranger buddy of mine. He got his vest from that site back when he went to Iraq and Afghanistan but that was when they were still authorized to wear DCU's so coyote tan was ok to use. The vest I want does not come in ACU digital and the others just don't offer enough I can use. I am not a Lieutenant yet so I don't need a freakin' pistol holster on the vest nor would I want one anyways, they have that rifle stock sticky spot thing for shooting which I'm not crazy about. There is only ONE that is quality enough but it comes ONLY in coyote tan which is only good for Marine digital and I refuse to use the Vietnam War crap ROTC gives us. I need a site or something that I can get a damn good vest. Here is the one I was looking at but CAN'T buy... It is $239.99 and is one of the only ones that doesn't say ******' BLACKHAWK all over it.

www.tacticaltailor.com (if the link doesnt work, google it)

Get the 1 piece MAV vest and the bib. Skip the X harness or whatever the **** it is. Buy whatever pouches you need to suit your needs (just a word of advice, you don't need 14 individual quick release mag pouches, one or two singles and put the rest in a 2 pack, or 3 packs if you have to carry more than 7 mags). Don't waste space on **** like flashlight/multitool pouches or pistol mag puches, those $14 IV pouches TT sells are the ****, you can fit an entire IFAK in one (and its a lot smaller than the medical pouches), plus one or two more for gloves, flashlights, your 7th magazine when you don't have your weapon with you, all that ****. My kit (and this was on a paraclete but you can get away with the MAV system) was an Escape and Evasion pouch on my chest for my forward air controlling stuff, 2 single mag pouches, 2 double mag pouches, and 4 IV bags to carry all the bullshit I wanted to have on me (dont know what you do but you probably only need like 3 at most)

+2 on why do you need a TacVest in ROTC?

Not worth it IMO. Your just going to get issued something else when you commission. And you don't even know what your MOS is going to be. Waste of money.

I'm buying it because I don't really care what I am issued down the road, like most combat arms as long as it is in reg they will configure there own ****. I am just getting it now because ROTC dishes out the biggest hunks of crap on earth and to be frank if I can control what gear I use damn straight I'm going to. Vietnam was a long time ago, I'll pass on using the **** if I have to. Besides this vest I will keep and use on tours post commission, aside from that no future is guaranteed so if something should happen along the way I will have it. It's one of those I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it kind of things.

So which one of these would you suggest?

If any I was looking at the Tac 1A Rifle, I don't need a **** ton of pistol mag pouches or even a pistol holster on the vest...

I don't like those vests, don't know many who do actually. Getting the MAV and the BIB allows you to build your own vest, you can also change it later as your needs change.

Just a standard combat load. Usually 7 to 8 mags, a some random crap pouches be it a compass, cls bag or just good to have storage that won't get in the way of anything.

So what set up did you use? I only see coyote tan for color? This seems to be a marine gear based site without ACU

Ok nevermind, I see it in the print that they have an Army Combat one. I like this one, what do you think? See the thing I was considering also is you can put extra pouches on the IBA above the ammo pouches if I really needed to. What do you think of this one in ACU?

Do you really do that much field maneuvering with live magazine and rounds in ROTC that would warrant this purchase?

Nothing live, but this isn't just for ROTC. I am prior service, I would have gotten one regardless of ROTC but the fact that I am no longer in a unit that provides decent stuff and that I would be forced to furnish my own **** or use vietnam war **** is another reason. Besides, should anything happen to my ROTC career (just covering my ***) I will have it. It's something that I will use post commission as well I'm sure.
