Default New ZR1 on Stock Tirea @ E-Town

this was at E-Town in October for a magazine shoot, i was there for a drag radial test and the ZR1 for one of the first "real" track tests by a GMHTP/Super Chevy type Mag..

here's a vid (trying to upload more, having an issue with photobucket) of a new ZR1 with headers on street tires.. the car has a tune in it according to the owner, but only leaning it out a little as it was very rich in the upper RPM range. it was a 300'DA day with a slight head/cross wind and the car wasn't hooking for anything. no full throttle till top of first and you can hear the slipping into 2nd of the tires, spinning for more than 30'..

IMO the car on a hot track is a 10.8 & on a DR?? who knows, deep 10's? by the end of the day after about 20 passes the car was hitting 133+mph and i believe 1 @134? the amazing thing is the driver of the car is just a kid, 19 i believe.. no offense to him, he did well but imagine this car in the hands of an experienced driver.. this car did run a number of 11.02's/.03's that day as well hot lapping some runs, it never even slowed down..

sorry no vids of the 134mph pass, by then i was dealing with my own non-shifting into 3rd trans issues lol.. anyway, i'll try to post more vids when the issues are worked out, the nice thing is how quiet it is so you can hear the car without any interference. fyi, my truck with a new higher stalled Yank, was only cutting 1.70's due to traction (i was only leaving half throttle) when in the past with a 3200 Vig it used to cut consistent 1.67's, so even this ZR1 should be able to cut, on a street tire, a good 1.7x maybe better 60' (not to mention he didn't even air the tires down at all, i know they're low profile, but should help some.

Anyway, thanks again to Super Chevy Mike for having Matt and myself there, was alot of fun. (got to watch the ZR1 and the GTR cutting up the road course some as well.)

you can't leave much softer then these two runs... full throttle top of first.

this was a run off the spray, still leaving the same way..

here's my friend Matt's G8 that day mild Cam, headers, 2800Vig

this car has since had a TVS1900 installed and run 11.14 & 11.17@125 and run as fast as 129mph.. he's looking for 10's if he can get it to hook.
Here's a vid of the low 11 runs.

Great videos! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see the ZR1 with a really good driver and some DR's!

That's awesome! Thanks for posting them up!

You're TB runs damn strong! I gotta get on the ball with my 02. I can't be getting beat by a TB SS, lol

How wussy was the cam in that G8? Bolt-on G8's are hitting 110mph consistently.

I wanna see ranger in that car.

If he can fun a 10.85 in a c6 z06 with only a DR. A ZR1 will easily be a 10.6 car!

think he replaced it with a LPGT2, but before he had a mild, like stock 02Z06 cam, so he could keep the DOD.. if i remember correctly..

Besides the launch..which cant be very easy with that kind of power and street tires. I thought he rowed through the gears pretty good.

lol i know.. a friend made that video with the best intentions, great guy BAD taste in music

you have no idea.. .4+ knocked off just by the converter.. and passing anywhere from 40-70 time is cut in half, truck has no dead spots.. smashing the gas at 80-90 you can see a little loss if you pay attention to the speedo vs stock converter, but if you use a Vig triple disc (the one i had before trying the Yank) and it locks at 88mph, hold on cause that truck goes from 90-130 in what seems like no time fast... even being shaped like a brick..

That's wicked! If that kid owns the car, more power to him! How do NHRA rules apply to a car like that as far as cages etc.? I've heard if it comes that way factory equipped they don't enforce it, any input anyone?
