Default 5.3 or 5.7 Heads??

What's the difference? I have noticed that the 5.3s are cheaper. I have also seen LS1 heads and LS6 heads. What is the difference? Don't they both just bolt up? Why choose one over the over? I just need to know so I can figure what direction to go with my car. It's my daily driver.

Im sure a search will help, but for starters, 5.3L heads will give you some increased compression... good for a N/A setup...

5.7's and 5.3's flow relatively the same and this is with the 5.3 having a smaller intake valve (2.00 vs 1.89). when ported they are again pretty much the same, the 5.3 has a smaller chamber which will most likely spec out to ~62cc when its said and done, this will raise your compression a half a point and more in conjunction with a thinner gasket. so with the 5.3 you get the same flow of the 5.7 and you get the increased compression all w/o milling.

ALL gen 3 heads bolt up. what it comes down to is your budget and application.

With all the advantages of the 5.3 why would anyone choose to go with 5.7 heads? The last I checked the 5.3s were cheaper too.

Well, patriot makes stage 2 heads that are cheaper than any 5.3 heads that work on 97-98 cars.

And people who live in the heat probably don't want any more compression!
