well yes and no

you do need the lwoer airbox, but you need something to seal the hood to the airbox i.e. weather stripping. also something to help smooth uot the airflow, like maybe a thin peice of sheet metal to make it a straight shot through the nostrils to the airbox would help.

right, get ana ftermarket air lid. that will help but tis not gonig to seal the hood to your airbox.

when you clsoe your hood, theres about a 1 inch gap between the hood and the lower airbox. this is where engine ehat can get sucked in, and the air can come from anywhere. by taking something like weather stripping and attaching it to your hood, you will close the gap and all the air you suck in will come from the hood. the air outside will be cooler, and the faster you go the more "ram" effect you will get.

just keep in mind that theres no such thing as a true "ram air" but this is a good cheap way to make a very nice cold air induction and is gonna be the most effective other than a forced induction set up like a turbo

Just as an fyi and to re-iterrate what Tainted said...

The whole "ram air" deal is pretty much a joke. It definitely looks cool, but it does
nothing essentially in terms of performance gains. The only true ram air is forced
induction (i.e. blower / turbo).

hood ram airs arent really that effective anyways, the scoop would have to be high up(like dragsters) or on the roof

Does nothing as it applies to our cars or all cars in general? Forward mounted hood scoops (ram air) have provided substantial and repeatable performance gains at the track for nearly a century.

I'm referring to the stock LSx ram air packages.

yes, we all know that the pro stock guys need big mail box hood scoops.
