Unhappy Stock Clutch vs. Nitrous

I was thinking about getting a nitrous kit for my ride. Been talking to a guy up at work that owned a 99 Z and sprayed the **** out of it. I was getting all pumped up to buy a kit and then remember that my 67k mile stock clutch probably wouldn't last long.

There is a possibility that the clutch isn't stock, but I really don't want to take a chance. Guess I better look into a LS2 Flywheel and LS7 Clutch install first.

Anybody have any luck on similar mileage clutches with nitrous? How long did it last?

I have the exact same mileage on my Vette. I have sprayed 4 times on the dyno, through two gears on the street and made two back to back 3rd through 4th pulls against a modded Yamaha R6. This was on a 150 shot, clutch is still fine and holding.

My stock clutch with 67000 on it lasted 2 times with 75 shot on the street and the first track pass at 100 shot with drag radial was the end of it

When I first started spraying the cluth slipped a few times, now it doesnt do that **** anymore. It is still a good idea to nupgrade the clutch with that much power.

seems like most of you guys who fried the stock clutch using nitrous have other mods such as a cam. what about spraying 100hp wet shot on an otherwise stock car? I'm talking a lid, exhaust, and a 100 shot, on an otherwise stock '02 Z28.

I really want to do this, am I an idiot?

It seems it's a little hit or miss. I've seen 600+ rwhp cars on the stock clutch last a little while. If your just spraying a little on the street it'll last a lot longer then say a clutch on a car going to the track doing 4k drops. Just be prepared to eventually replace the clutch, well a little faster then you normally would.

yea I should have clarified, this car will probably never wear slicks, or even drag radials, and will not be subjected to high RPM launches if it ever makes it to the track. its really just for my own personal entertainment on the street (my apologies to Johnny Law). I don't street race. I do a lot of driving, and I've always wanted that extra kick I can turn on and off when I feel like it.

Stock clutch gave out at 105k with about six 15# bottles ran through it on a 125 shot. Installed the nitrous at 85k so I didn't think 20k miles on an old clutch was too bad. Car made 395rwhp/504rwtq. Never ran on anything but street tires though.

My stock clutch with 30k lasted about 2 10lbs bottles on the street with 100 shot and 1 run at the track with nittos. I put another stocker in due to money and it lasted about 30 11 second passes with 1.7-1.9 60 ft times. put a new one it and forget it. the new specIII+ is awsome.

I fried 1 stock clutch at the track and exploded another stock clutch on the street when I just had bolt-ons, and wasn't spraying either time. Each time the stocker had about 10-15k on it. Installed a SPEC 3 after that, and it has held up for 35k miles so far. The stock clutch won't last long at all on the spray. Might as well go ahead and upgrade the clutch.

see, you guys have to remember, he has a 98, the clutch and hydrolics in 98/99 sucked!!!! i went threw 2 stock in my car with just bolt ons, street tires

00 was better, and 01/02 got good ls6 clutches (pretty sure thats how it went)

im wondering the same, will my clutch hold for a whie if i hit an 03 z06 with a 100-125 street tires. its got 15k miles, and its not beat yet. im sure it will for a while, but not sure how long. i hate to have to replace it, cuz i wont want the **** driving of a spec because my old man just wont like it. so i would have to put a stock one back in to me is a waist.
so confused

It'll still die in short order. It will last longer if you have great driving habits and are a skilled manual driver. Sure it will last a while but it'll start slipping and slow you down. Why even bother?

Extra power is useless if you can't apply it.
