Good to meet you also man.

Ya, everyone was talking about the lack of traction. The guy in the white Barracuda with the wheelie bars got pissed off and left early. I ended up dropping the rear control arms back down to the bottom hole while I was there, and it helped alot. Best 60' time was a 1.69 so the track seemed to get better as the night went on. Ended up running a string of 11.teens.

11.19 @ 125.61
11.16 @ 125.48
11.13 @ 125.89
11.15 @ 125.89
11.08 @ 125.92 <-- new pb mph

Yeah, I was busy trying to get my tune right, eventually got pissed off and left early (also got a mark for being too loud, stupid 16second civic....). It's running so rich, can't figure out why. I even had some traction problems, just wasn't good.

My little sister video taped some of your runs, I'll post what I have tonight.

My best (still not bad for a daily driver v6):

60' - 2.06 (bad, gotta work on the launch)
1/8- 9.065
mph- 77.81
1/4- 14.182
mph- 95.58

Yeah we'll meet up one of these days lol... There was another teal car there "Jsafe" and I did get to meet him yesterday as we were both going through tech at the same time. I was pretty busy making suspension adjustments. Everytime I did have some free time, I couldn't find your car anywhere.

That's not a bad run. Work on the launch and you'll get a 13.8 pretty easily.

I saw that other teal car, messed me up for a second. Thought to myself "Am I in my car?" lol

I saw you over by the fence with the rear jacked up a few times. First time I saw it I was thinking you broke something. Wish the track prep was better, it would've been a great night to get some better times.

I'm uploading video now.

And phill. I talked to pat and he is going to sell it. I tried to talk him out of it, but he made some good points. He is thinking about a C5 or a LT4 C4
ya im not too worried i have an extra car anyway lol. idk for just a little more money u can get a 414ci motor from texas speed, so that might be worth it. im having trouble deciding on aluminum block or iron block though. i think the 402 ls2 would be a good one too

Nice run man.

Those two runs you posted of mine were before I changed the lower control arms. That setting was bad news for traction as you can see lol.... Even that Barracuda with the big ol' slicks couldn't hook at the beginning of the night. I downloaded my vids off the video camera last night so I'll post up some of those.

^^ Advantage to that is being able to hone the block in the case of a mishap, good way to go we've done a few for boost people like that.

Alot of factors are involved and it's very dynamic.

-Car really needs a drag race type rear sway bar to keep the car level. In slow motion, you can see the car rock to one side on the launch, unloading the other tire, then it rocks back and settles about 20-30' out. A drag bar would keep it level on the launch, keeping both rear tires planted harder at the very beginning. This is main thing the car needs at the moment, but they cost about 300-400.00 and it's money I don't have at the moment.

-Another is that it's a relatively small tire for the power level. I should be rolling a 27"-11.50 on a 10" wide wheel with a 4.11 gear, but I'm working with a 26"-10.50 on a 8" wheel and a 3.89 gear. The lower numerical gear, the harder it is to find that traction "window" and launch rpm. Right now, I'm only launching at 5k rpm..... With a bigger tire I could be launching at 6k+ and getting the thing to move the fu(k out.... lol....

-Also, with a stick car and a slick (auto's are way different though), you don't want the car to dead hook unless you have the power to carry the car through without bogging. With the 3.89 gears I have, it bogs on a dead hook. The best launch with my power level is going to be a slight spin off the line to keep the wheel speed up without bogging the engine. Right now, the wheel speed is just too high and I can't do anything about it without lowering rpm's and bogging. It's frustrating.... but that's racing..

LOL,, yeah it is very dynamic. I haven't even mentioned front/back shock settings and how they can dramatically affect launch/traction. There's alot more to it than most people realize (myself included since I'm still learning), not to mention that automatics react completely different than 6sp cars. There's not a lot of info readily available for getting one our 4th gen 6-speeds to launch well at this power level. Most guys switch to an automatic before reaching 10's, but hey, I like a challenge.

UMI, Spohn and BMR all make rear sway bars specific to drag cars.

Mike
