Hello all, I am new here,hope I am doing this right so I don,t get my hand slapped. Finally getting my car ready for summer,ya on this wonderful rainy day. 2002 Firebird Formula NHRA, m6. Well the wife was driving""have to keep her name out of it to protect the innocent""...me....So today while going up the on ramp to I-5, she was feelin a little frisky,and after lots of fishtailing,some panic,and missing one car,we came to a stop,in the slow lane,facing traffic. Luckily there was light traffic,and we did not get hit,or hit the guard rail. So my point that "I need new tires" makes more sense to her now. My question is for wet traction,what tires would you guy,s recommend? 245/50/16........Thank,s in advance

The Goodyear Eagle GT is a solid tire and has great traction in wet conditions. Size wise, I personally wouldn't go any smaller than a 275/40/17. But my opinion on that size is based on looks. Overall though, the 275/40/17 has worked well for all my applications.

I would not recommend driving these cars at all in the rain if you dont have to but if you do have to I think goodyear also has some high performance aqua tread lines. Oh and btw frisky with an ls1, m6 and rain is a dangerous combo lol! Bridgestone Potenza makes a really nice rain tire as well and agreed with the turk turk on 275/40/17.

I don't know if you can put 275's on those stock rims but you should find out.. Well people said I couldnt put 315's on my 9.5 rim too but they fit..really anything with a good wet rating will be fine.. And cars are ment to be drivin in the rain phill!..lol...plus they are fun as hell when it's wet out... When your the driver not the passenger of course.

I dont see many muscle cars out in the rain driving lol. I have had a camaro since 1995 and until my car now I had to dd everyone of them and hated it. Your low to the ground so on the freeway you cant see **** with everyone's spray in your face, traction is always an issue and to be honest they're are just not that comfortable of cars to drive all the time imo.

I don't drive mine in the rain either. All that dirty spray gets in nooks and crannys making for a not clean car. Oh! Traction is a ***** ***** . Plan on crashing. ^^^get the widest you can and be very gentle. I have 315s and have spun out with mild acceleration on a damp not saturated surface.

Screw driving in the rain. I would never own one of these cars if meant I had to drive in the rain. That's what beater cars are meant for.

I drove mine from Longview to Vancouver everyday for 9 months during the winter with bald *** 315 drag radials. It was also my daily driver for 5 years!

I've had mine for 7 years and DD it tell this last Thursday and have had 315's on it and no issues for me when it rains.. Give and take the spin out going from a stop. Freeways are no problem also, the thing actuall tracks a lot better with the 315's then the 275's.. But I guess everyone is different.

Thank you for the replies.......I don,t like to drive in the rain.....it was not raining when I left the house,glorious valley weather.I am from Central Oregon and miss driving this time of year. As for wheel size,I would love to have 17 inch....New ones are not in the budget...Anyone have any used ones for sale..lol....I was going to keep this thing "stock" but who am I kidding ...... the stock suspension is lacking,and so easy to upgrade...let alone all the Hp upgrades......If I keep it,it wont stay "stock" much longer...

I daily drove mine for 4 years including the snow and ice of Idaho winters on 245/50/16 Bridgestones. You do what you have to on limited budgets until you can afford a beater as a DD.

Have any of you guys taken out the BCM on your cars? I think mine fried last night, because today the radio, mirrors, unlock lights/turn signals, and hatch do not want to work.

I read you can't just take it out because it messes with the VATS. A new BCM is around $200 but a VATS Bypass module is $60, can I use the module and then unplug the BCM and just run my wires for the stuff that used to go through the BCM?

I am buying a new windshield for the darn car because it is cracked and I really don't want to put any more money into it than I have to right now.

Oh and lastly can you just tune the VATS out and where would one go for that and what kind of price is that going to be?

^^ lol :O. Jess, there is a good write up on BCM repair I've read somewhere in here. Sounds like the typical issue as well. It's a simple soldering job and you're back in business.

Well in case anyone is wondering: I took the radio out last night and looked at the BCM wiring and the board inside the box. The solder joints look great and so do the wires; also there were no black scorch marks and it didn't smell like an electrical fire. I even went so far as to test the relays in the unit and they work fine. I went to use the car today and now the odometer/trip meter do not work. I think it is the IC in the BCM malfunctioning. I ordered a new one so it'll hopefully be here before more important things stop working. Also I bypassed the wiring that runs the (DRLs) and they work still as long as they are not going through the BCM so I think that pretty much tells me it is the problem.
