Now, I get the grinding noise when it opens. I dont get the grinding noise when I activate/deactivate my alarm anymore. I also found out when the head light opens and starts making the grinding noise, reason for the grinding noise is that it kinda looks like it gets stuck and needs a little push and that stops the grinding noise. Is there anything else I could try? Maybe instead of a 180 degree turn, I would need a 220 degree turn. (This is for a 2002 Trans am.) Normally when you rotate the shaft, would it be in a clockwise motion or counter clockwise?

Thank You,
Ray
This is exactly what happens for the majority of us. The only way to rotate the gear 1/4 turn is to open the cover. Then once you seal it back up, you will have two choices for the arm to go back on. This is equivalent to giving you a choice of 90° or 270°. One of those two positions will skip past the missing teeth on the gear.

Although, if the motor is not tight using the tabs, it will probably strip the gears again. Then you'll have to replace the gear.

I replaced one of my gears with a new plastic one and it stripped pretty quickly. I'm done fixing them. Done, done, done.

I'm not driving the car much right now so this is my temp fix. Believe it or not, these Pilot driving lights are better than the stock units.

Soon to be this style once I get some money together to build the projectors how I want them.

Not sure if anyone replied..... I didn't read all 19 pages (OMG!!!!)

Anyway.... you can drill a hole where the tab broke off and stick a bold and nut through it. Make sure the nut is the same diameter as the tab that broke off.

Hey guys...ive had LOADS of headlight problems outta my 99 TA---BUT! (i didnt go back to see if someone said this already) Any local Oreilly store should now carry reman headlight motors! i picked mine up for about 60 bux and they have a LIFETIME WARRANTY!

If u want to switch out your gears u can too, they made the case halfs screw together instead of glue, so u could put in brass gears, or just leave the plastic ones in it til they break and warranty it...hopefully i didnt repost but i think they just recently started carrying those things.

ok, so I took off my headlight and I'm ready to rotate the motor shaft 180 degrees.

But how the hell do I know how far the motor shaft is turning??[

Did you seperate the arm from the motor? You just manually turn the motor until the shaft rotates 180* then put the arm back on.

Yep, I just did that...So I turned it 180 degrees and now the headlight's fcked up 10x worse than before then I tried turning it 90 degrees "in between" and that did absolutely nothing to fix it...And I somehow managed to break both bolts that hold in the headlight.

Well, you tried 3 of the 4 positions. Now that you took it apart and moved it 90*, try removing the arm and rotating it 180*. If only one part of the gear is stripped, you'll eventually get to the good section. It will probably just strip the good section of the gear in short order, though.

I would just raise them and pull the fuses. Then order it online and see if it can be shipped to you.

I looked online. It shows they are $65.99 with a $15 core charge for the right side and a $25 core for the left side. The pics don't show the screw-on cover, though. They come from CARDONE INDUSTRIES.
