has anyone seen this new kit it actually has a brass gear AND the rubber cushion? Looks like he even includes a reinforcing brace has anyone tried these? I think the rubber cushion is what the first design was missing
and bringing it back with a metal gear should take care of the lights for good.
Any opinions

Never seen that kit before, but looks like a good one. I recently had to replace my brass gear with a new one because the epoxy failed.

I think that new kit might be the trick, the rubber is back, where the older metal gear design was a solid connection, the rubber should cushion the open and close, just put rubber stops in too and be done with it for good.

Well my replacement "aluminum" gear that i installed a month ago just stripped. WTF? The plastic cover for the gear is intact and the metal housing for the drive gear is stable/solid, no play . I just ordered the kit that was posted above, Im gonna try that one this time, if that also fails...**** it Autozone here I come! (lifetime warranty)

Its not assembled properly and is slipping. Either the gear is not aligned/installed properly or the housing is not closed properly (or its flexing badly). You should fix it soon before you wear out the new gear and/or damage the motor housing.

You might get a better response if you make a thread specifically about that, right now your asking a question in a thread thats talking about the headlight of a Firebird

^Nice job...hope you got the lifetime warranty.

Does anyone else have an issue with the headlight not closing all the way?

My driver's side light does that, and I went triple digits and the wind ripped open the headlight, stripping the gear again. I had to send it back under warranty.

By any chance does it go down all the way and pop up alittle bit? If so make sure the rubber bumper/stopper has fallen out.

^yes, it goes down and pops back up an inch or 2.

The stoppers look pretty worn.

Where can I get new ones from?

Good luck trying to find them. What I did last weekend was I got some electrical tape and put a couple of layers of tape onto the arm (not were the stoppers were). Worked like a charm.

Hmm, good thinking. I'll have to try that when I get my motor back...Where exactly did you tape them? Where the arm makes contact with the stoppers?
