Need some help
Hey everyone,
I've been actively looking for a TA for about 4-5 months now, I thought I found the perfect one on ebay, it was close to me, miles were low only problem is it wasn't a WS6 ( not a big deal )....
Awesome, it was NBM so I was perfectly fine with it not being a Ws6... the price was 16k and it only had 19k on the clock. I've been dealing with the guy and brought the price down to 15k and he sent me some more pictures of it...
Very odd... the car isn't NBM...
Now I'm in a stump... The one he has looks awesome, but it's not the color I want and it's not a Ws6.. I love the way the black looks on the TA's and I would take it but I've never had a black car before and my fiance who does have a black sunfire says after owning a black car she would NEVER buy another one sence it's such a pain to keep clean and keep the swirl marks off..
I would appreciate some advice as I'm extremely stumped at what to do... I would LIKE to get a stock silver/nbm ws6, if it's a TA it has to have the ram air hood... I found one on ebay that's silver but it's in Bakersfield CA and that's way too far for me to travel for it and would cost too much $ to ship.
Do you agree that black cars are extremely hard to care for and I should go with this one?
Please help!

I think you should go for it. I've never really had a problem with black cars. It looks nice, and if it's what youre looking for (almost). If you can compromise a few options you want, go for it!
It depends how set you are on NBM/silver, and how long you mind waiting for a better match in your area to come up. There's sure to be one in the right color at some point if you keep looking, and you wouldn't want to end up kicking yourself for compromising if you saw one listed a week after buying the black one.
But if the color isn't that important to you and you just want to get one already, I'd say don't let the cleaning concerns hold you back. Many people do find black to be more picky about how it is cared for, but you'd probably want to spend a good amount of time keeping any ls1 you got looking good, just have to be more careful about it with black

I'm just really worried about the black paint, if it's really such a pain in the butt to care for I really won't have time to wash it ( maybe once a week during the summer ). I am afraid of passing on this one and kicking myself for passing if something doesn't come along that's as good as a deal... I have about 15k to work with and my chances of finding an AUTO TA with under 20k miles for 15k in blue or silver that's never seen rain are pretty slim... let alone around a 250 mile radius.. now if I knew how to drive a manual, then it would be much easier, but I don't know if I want to deal with a clutch..
Ah, only looking for an auto, that does narrow the field quite a lot on these cars!
Manual seems pretty straightforward from what I've read about how they work, but I haven't ever driven one yet either. When I'm ready to start looking for a TA in a few years, I'm thinking about either finding a friend who has a beater with manual that I could try, or going to a used-car dealership and test-driving a manual there.
Does take a bit more attention to what's going on and what to do while you're driving, but I already pay attention to what the transmission and engine are doing so the only difference is I'd be controlling more of it instead of just watching it happen.

The most important thing is to get what you want. I have a NBM car and swirl marks are not nearly as visible as on my friend's black SS. The thing is though (for me) when clean I hardly notice them on either car.
Here's a bunch of stuff I found that you might want to read, about paint care (focusing on black)
