I just realized that I'm going to have to change my little signature emblem so people aren't thinking that I drive one of those G8s. It's a nice car, but it is a sedan.

Ding Ding Ding; we have a winner!

IDK about you guys, but i think seeing just "SLP G8" or "SLP *insert car line name here*" on the back of a car would be straight sex.

kinda like, "Damn, is that an SLP car?!"

GM has officially raped every performance name that enthusiasts had once held dear. Now they're nothing more than trim names. It really is no wonder that this company is going down in flames.

It is because some must still be in denial about the DI V6. 300 crank hp and 273 ft/lbs of torque from a 3.6 liter motor. It would easily get 400 hp with a good blower and supporting mods, still be reliable and get good mileage and not need a whole lot of maintenance compared to some turbocharged applications.

I like the ring of SLP G8. It goes better with the moniker of the vehicle itself. It's all alpha-numeric to start with. Adding a name to something alpha-numeric is more along the lines of fighter aircraft, and that isn't as glorious as it once was.

It's a shame the G8 only gets the normal version of the 3.6 because teh DI version is a great engine.

Thankfully they dropped the Malibu SS when the Malibu got redesigned.

I don't like them using Firehawk on it myself, but it is what it is. No sense in complaining they're not changing their mind. Can't wait to see the specs though.

yea, my mom has a new '08 CTS w/ the DI V6; it isn't my SS, but that sum' bitch hauls *** for a 6 banger!

for the sake of argument; even if adding a blower adds only 25% crank power; we're still talking 375HP and 343 ft/lbs from a DI V6. That isn't to shabby for a DD for someone who can afford it. that would easiy run with BMW 3 Series and low end AMG's.

Add a pulley, intake/exhaust, and a tune; you have a "poor man's" CTS-V (kind of like how the F-Bodies are "poor man's" Corvette's)

This is NOT a GM decision. It is purely an SLP decision. That makes it even more painful since thousands of us actually supported SLP by purchasing our Firehawks and Camaro SS cars, as well as SLP parts. They are an enthusiast driven company.....that seems to be turning their ears away from the very group that helped them grow.

Having been a member of the SLP board since what, 1996 when it first came online, the OLD LS1.com, now this site and LS2.com, I almost purchased a 2001 Pewter/Beige 6spd Firehawk but the dealer was a douche bag......upon hearing this name for a G8.....in my opinion, foolish.

I think a bit more thought should have been made to another specialty vehicle from SLP. Firehawk would not have been one of them. There wasn't one older Pontiac model name that is not under license from GM that could have been used? I'm guessing when shown at SEMA, the reaction will be overwhelmingly negative.

In my opinion, SS was always used on multiple cars, Nova, Camaro, Chevelle. Firehawk was used on the Formula and Trans Am. Nothing else. SS had been thrown around a little before, Firehawk was sacred.

Firehawk was sacred.
Agreed. I love SLP stuff, anytime im in the market for performance parts, i go to their website first...my car is pretty much a poster child for them...and unlike alot of others who like to jump on the "I hate SLP" bandwagon,, I really like my SLP goods,,fit, finish, quality, and performance. Unfortuatly what is happening with the G8 becoming a Firehawk is very sad, and hopfully SLP is listening and will take the words we are all saying to heart,,the above quote says it all.

Good luck!

Posts deleted. Guys, this thread is not about turbo buicks or Trailblazers. Keep the thread on topic. Discuss the G8 "Firehawk".

IS the "SUPER DUTY" Name trademarked by anyone? I know Ford is using it presently but even SUPER DUTY would be better than Firehawk.

I still don't understand how SLP can justify calling it a Firehawk since the name is a derivative of the Firebird.

Royal Bobcat is a mark of the Royal Bobcat Racing Team.

Although we (SLP) own the mark "Bobcat", we are using Firehawk as the name.
