Yeah, we had a blast....
It was EVERYTHING Boyce, Bill & Jeff said it would be....and more! Jeff & Boyce (Jeffyvette & NataSS Inc) took 2nd place in the 160 class in Jeffs vette leaking dif fluid & running on 7 holes. Pretty impressive!!!
Anyway, like I said we had a blast. We did what we set out to do - bring home a trophy. Tho neither of us ever thought we'd do this good. We were very excited. As was just about everyone there. I think.....all I could hear was Boyce & Jeff screaming when they announced our names. It was WAY cool.
THanks Boyce Jeff & Bill (Racehead) for all your help. THe front end was perfect, the nav did his job & the car did what we asked it to do. Thanks to Danny at NW Dif, the rear end never gave us a problem. Well, as long as I kept the gas pedal off the floor under 40 mph. I did spin the tires pretty good launching during the race.
During our race to the finish, the car got HOT. We were 30 seconds behind coming into the last straight & rolled it up to 138mph for about 15 miles to make up some time. We were still 3 sec slow when the red idiot light came on (water temps at 240*, oil pegging the gauge at WELL over 300*). So I lifted & let it roll and we came in right where we wanted to.
We had done 138 for several miles earlier going thru the speed trap, so it was preheated before we went up the hill, and it never cooled off. An oil cooler & some other stuff is required I think. (need to talk to AndyJ on that other website) I wish we could have found out how fast the car is - 138 wasn't even topped out in 3rd gear - so we had plenty of power, but the endurance part was at the car's limit.
What a fugging rush!

To add some other info this crowd might be interested in....
My alignment was 1/16 toe, 0 camber, and around +5 caster. The car handled like a dream!
I was running 4 new Toyo 275/40/17 RA1s. I started at 40 psi cold, but they went up to 46 after my 18 mile practice sessions. (with what I was told was nitrogen in them) Since they are rated at 44 max I dropped them down to 32 psi cold and the pressure hit about 38 but the tires were not firm enough during the last leg of my race. The temps always were fine, and they have lots of tread left.
The tune needed minor tweaking. We had to turn the long term fuel trims off because it was dumping fuel (even tho the O2s read OK). And then we had to richen up the MAF table ~5% around 3500 area for cruising. After a little driving it felt very strong.
I run the Eibach Pro Kit springs with QA1 adj shocks, and turning them up to 8 in front & 9 in back seemed to be fine even with some big bumps in this course. Tho I was told the front end was up while we were driving, so maybe dbl adj would be better. I also have big sway bars front & rear.
And I ran an open dif (non-posi) with 2.70 gears in my 9" & the temps were fine (never went above 190). I did have to keep the go pedal off the floor until around 40 mph to avoid frying the right rear tire. But it was stable accelerating out of the turns.
If I think of anything else, I'll post it up.

So these things are run like an "index" in drag racing?? (i.e; for a given speed class, whoever gets the closest average speed to the given class, without exceeding it, wins??)?

Whoever is closest + or - to their average speed wins. But like Ellis said, exceed your tech speed by .1 mph & you are done. Ours was 140. And they have LOTS of radar traps. You are also supposed to maintain a min speed. Ours was 100 mph. (so nobody runs over you...the cars are spaced out 1 minute apart)
