Default Need some advice for drag motor.

Im shopping for an engine to put in my drag car for next season and could use some help deciding which route to go. The car is 9sec93's old car. It was 2750lbs with an LS1 and a th350. Ill be running a glide. My biggest problem is Im on a budget and still want to go fast.
My goal is to at least be in the 10s. So what do you guys think is the best way to go.. Id prefer to build my own engine, but that can be pricey. I was thinking a carbed 383 would be a good way to go. Something in that 450rwhp range. Any advise would be appreciated.

here is a picture of the car

How much suspension work have you done to the car? What rear gear ratio/tire size are you going to be running? How hard is it to find SBC 400's around there?

All the work was done by 9sec93. Its set up really good. It has a 4-link and strange adjustable coilovers, 9" with 4.30s. The tires are 315/60/15 which is a 30" tire. There isnt a whole lot of engines for sale up here. Ive been doing my shopping on racingjunk. Trying to find something closer to home.

I havent ruled the LS1 idea out yet. Thats why Im asking you guys for some opinions. Id like to know which route to go. I just figured that carbed would be cheaper as I have no computer system for the car...

For the money/weight/HP that you get out of the LSx family I would stay with a LS2 block. You can get a 403 rotating assembly from Scat or Eagle for pretty cheap and you can stay carb'd as well. As long as you stay with a LS6 style head you can stay close to the aftermarket Gen 1 SBC's in price. You can go solid roller for just about the same price for lifter's & cam too.

Find a cheap *** 6.0 block, replace the stock pistons with forged components, hone the block and install them. Then find a nice cam and LS6 heads or better and use the vic JR intake with a 750 carb and a shot of dope in the 200s. You will have a budget car that will fly, not motor and radials the one my buddy and I built went 95 MPH in the 1/8th on a base line tune and radials, we even have a carb that is to small.

370ci for cheap, stock 6.0 shortblock cheapest, or good 408ci iron stroker, BEST 402ci LS2....best for money, weight and power.

Top off with L92 heads....Less than $1100 ANYWHERE with proper valvetrain set up and flow 325CFM ++++...
Top that with a GM L92 carbed intake and Quick Fuel 950 carb
1-7/8" headers, 3" X-pipe with bullets.

stick with a flattop piston in the 11.5:1 compresson range and it will run on pump gas too.
Through a Th 400 or 350 it will make 470+rwhp with the right cam.....
it could make 650hp(flywheel) or so with a BIG CAM and close to 12:1 and could still run on 93 octane
