363 cu in sbc, garage throw together, how much power will it make?

Default 363 cu in sbc, garage throw together, how much power will it make?

I have some parts all left over from different engines and I'm thinking about throwing it together and putting it into a car. The engine is a 363 sbc, I have a soild roller that is 264/270@ .050 630/630 lift ground on a 106, and I have AFR 210's that are ported but they are not the eliminators.

If I put those heads on the engine as is, my compression will be 12:1. I know the cam is kinda huge but its already here and its free since I don't have to buy anything. Just looking to see how much power this engine will make. I know there won't be much torque output but thats what nitrous is for when I race it.

with a good flowing intake, correct carb, i would think 475+

The intake is what I am debating on. Naturally I would want to run a victor intake but If I run something like a RPM airgap I could possibly keep a little bottom end grunt and sacrifice a couple of ponies up top.

I have a 830 cfm Holley carb but I think that might be a bit much for it and was contemplating getting a 750 for it.

I think an Air Gap would ruin that motor. As you stated, nitrous compensates for torque; go with the Victor JR.
Easy 475 horse motor... more like 500+ horses.

My 362 is 480hp at 5500rpm and I am basically running the same thing as you

You have a solid roller that is the same as his and you only turn it 5500 to make 480hp? And it's a race gas motor? Hell the GM crate 383 makes 425hp and it has a very small hydraulic roller and 9.6:1 compression, with non-ported aluminum heads that have 2.00 intake valves.

That solid roller cam should turn 7000+rpm.

OP, put a victor jr on it. Port match the intake and run the 850. Just take your time getting the carb perfect and it should make all of 520-530@ 7000+ rpm, if the heads have a moderate-decent flow.

If you want to spend a little extra, my advice would be to go with 14:1 compression and have the heads extensively ported. Then we can talk in the 600-620hp range. In 1993, I built a 406 with 14:1 comp, solid roller somewhere around 270-280 @ 0.050 with .720 lift solid roller, AFR heads that flowed 310cfm @ .700 and a single dominator and made 700hp on the dyno. That was almost 20 years ago!!!

My 383 blew up on us so we don't do high pulls anymore, dyno had problems and would over rev so we didnt chance it. We turned my 362 7600rpm no problems, my 377 can turn 9000rpms no problem

Done Right 550-575hp is possible! and that cam really isn't very big, good bracket engine!
