After looking at it again, I'm thinking maybe he was just being foolish and I missed it.
Well, sure... A test was recently done using the GT350 as well and THAT dog will hunt.. I dare say, a stock C6 has very little chance against one. Of course, it's an 80k Mustang, so... Not to take away from a 12.0, but it's also "completed" in Las Vegas and that's the top version offered(although only $750 more than the next lower version). The new BOSS is pretty tough as well, and I'd have to expect that to outrun a stock C6.
All these thoughts should bear in mind, the top speed of a C6 is far and away higher than I expect from any dealer new Mustang. Aside from perhaps the GT350, I don't believe any will run faster than about 160-161mph, as they're governed. I only add 160 because I read somewhere, that mph. I thought (until then) they were all limited to 155mph. Just the same, some version of the Mustang have a rather serious amount of factory stock performance.
The above is more great reason for the ZL1 to be on the ball. My concern there is that it will surely outrun the C6 too... which gives reason for a strong C7.

its easy to fall behind! just shows the industry is always making leaps! todays mustangs can keep up with corvettes made not even that long ago!!! im sure the next corvette will raise the bar again though like the mustang is doing for the pony cars.

Sounds like that car needs a driver mod.
I have seen several 5.0s run better than that (Usually low to mid 8's) at northeast dragway. Stock LS1's routinely turn mid 8's there with bolt-ons and a tune low to mid 8s.
Here is a vid of a stock LS1 camaro running 12s pretty sure this driver could dust most new 5.0s at the track

Funny I never said that the new 5.0 mustang couldnt run in the 12s in fact if you spent a good bit of time at a track "the low to mid 8s in the 1/8 I said they routinely run", puts them right there I have even seen a few 11 sec 1/4
The new 5.0 does run good and it ought too only took the ford boys ten years to come up with a answer to the LSX series (meaning a decent flowing head from the factory.) it was getting pretty boring for me having to run terminators/bikes/and other LSX stuff all the time. I am just curious to see how well the cast aluminum pistons hold up in the 5.0s, only time will tell.
