Default 335xi vs LS1 Z28 and G35

After scowering the streets for the last week and having only 1 decent run in to talk about I finally ran into some competition today when i rolled up on a z28 that had the borla quad exhaust. Firstly i bring on the appetizer which was a full bolt on G35 coupe automatic.

335xi vs G35
Mods on the G35 were a catback and high flow cats. He probably had an intake, but I couldn't confirm that. Only spoke to him for a minute or two and he did say full bolt ons.

Anyway I'm heading down the street and notice some HID lights coming up behind me. It took a bit for traffic to break but he finally got along side of me and with no traffic ahead he slows to my speed. I'd say I'm about 35mph at this point. We do the little rev chatter back and forth. Without honking he nails it. I was ready and in 2nd gear so I follow suit. He gets about a car length on me before I was able to react. I quickly stop the pull and begin to walk past and grab about 2-3 car lengths before we shut it down at about 90mph or so as we are coming up to traffic. We slow and talk. I asked him if he wanted to do another from a dig or 3 honk it there. He didn't know what I was talking about so I gave the thumbs up and just turned and headed back home. Not the best competition I know, but he did have some mods so at least it didn't feel like a total puppy kicking.

335xi vs LS1 Z28 6speed
Mods on the camaro were at least a catback(the borla with quad squared tips to be exact) and aftermarket hood(SS-ish, but not exact). Didn't ask him about other mods, but maybe a lid and/or headers(smelt catless). I doubt much more than that though.

So i just picked up one of them double bacon sammiches from subway and head back to the house to do some work for the day and unexpectedly I come up to a z28 that smelt catless with a catback. He seems playful from the light when i was behind him. We come to an area where I could get next to him and just so happens there is no traffic for a good way and it's a nice straight road. Before I could even get next to him he was already giving my some revs so he must have known I was game by the way i was trying to catch up to him. We get side by side and I'm ready with traction off and in 2nd gear. We are rolling at about 25mph or so. He takes the hit, but I was really ready for it and he only jaunted out about 1/2 a car before I was able to react and stop the pull. I'm side by side through second and when I was in third I began to pull on him pretty steady. By about 85-90mph I have a solid car length on him when he shuts down and I do so as well to stop at the red light. Unfortunately he is turning left as I'd love to dig run him as that is my advantage being AWD. We both exchange thumbs up and a nod. Pretty cool guy, would have loved to find out if he had more than just some bolt ons and tell him I'm a fellow fbody owner.

My mods are tune and intake. Just got some more tricks in the mail for the bimmer, but no time to put them on. My other car is keeping my busy

Good kills. Just using bench racing maths, I doubt the Camaro had much, if any, more mods. I think you would have known if he had headers, since there is a definite increase in how loud it is. G35s are easy pickings for just about anything.

Yep, the G35 was a puppy kicking for sure. I'll never know what the Camaro truely had. I could smell that oh so familiar smell of a catless exhaust so who knows. I ran another TA on the highway some time back with similar results. Found out it was catback, long tubes and lid on it as well. But unless I hear it from the owners mouth or see it first hand I'll say it this one was a catback only car

Trying to. I think this tune is better than my previous one. I'm going to hold off on my other mods until we run again just to see if going from the jb3 to the cobb flash yields different results.

Thanks man, I really like my set of cars right now. You got yourself a pretty nice setup on your fbody. I love my bimmer, but I'll never part with my fbody. It brings a bigger smile to my face when I drive around in the T/A. Just got to get it drivable now.

Good race but I am a bit jealous, I never seem to find anyone who wants to run around here. Who knows though maybe I'll run into you and your 335 and we can get a run or two.

well oddly enough I share this account with my brother(he's too lazy to make his own) but I do believe he's doing a rear mount set up with a 6.0 with an ls6 cam and a borg warner 80mm, how bout yours? I myself just finished up my cam and header swap in mine and now looking for a nitrous kit.

I'm going for a traditional front mount tc78 on a forged ls1 block with a speed Inc cam and 317 heads. I was originally looking at going rear mount, but I think front mount is the way to go although it requires a little fabrication to get everything to fit up front.

yea I like rear mounts simply for the ease of installation and he got a pretty good deal on the kit, but yea you should hit me up for a few runs sometime if your feeling the urge to get your race on.

Nice kills! I've always wanted to run into a 335i but the only people who have them where I live don't know anything about cars. It sucks. Yours sounds pretty quick though, good runs

Question about the 335xi....can you launch those hard, or will stuff break? Any upgrades to allow sweet AWD launches and yank people out hard?

Good Kills!

I still wouldn't mind a classy G35 as a DD. Not fast by any means - but definitely quicker than what I'm putting around in now

Transmissions are pretty solid. I brake torque to about 2500rpm and let her rip. The transmissions in these cars a strong and will take alot of abuse. No real upgrades for them though. I would like a nice stall, but it's such a small market for that sort of thing.

I had a g37s 6mt and still think it was one of the funnest cars to drive in curvy roads.
