If someone is running a stock 302 block, they aren't very serious about horsepower, lol. They will split in a hurry. The mod blocks will hold the power but the internals are crap.

And when people talk about "crazy," they aren't generally talking about something that somebody can do (full weight, at least) with stock LS1 internals, either. I'd love to drive a properly-setup 400rwhp GT to see what it's like.

I've been to a stock 302 block race and I can promise you they are making more than 400 rwhp with stock blocks. Far as I've seen, stock 302 blocks can take around 475-550 with stock internals...with the rotating balance zero balanced and and a good tune, I've seen them last with over 600 rwhp. I'm not saying they will last a long time at over 600rwhp, but they will last a little while.

I've seen them break at h/c levels too. The problem is we don't know what people are doing to keep any of this **** alive. Could be half filled blocks or more, girdled up **** or many hours spent in stress relief.

All a girdle does is hold the two halves together when it splits. Pouring concrete in them would probably help if they had weak cylinder bores like a 400. Breaking all the edges of the mains wouldn't be a bad idea, since it's the thin main webbing that starts the block splitting in two.

Well having to put a hole in the block for the cam I'm sure doesn't help either. All the 302 blocks that I have seen split, the crack goes right through the cam hole.
I've never seen a block split while N/A unless there was catostrophic failure due to a rod or something like that.

However I do like main girdles because they do help with cap walk.
