Default 05 GTO M6 Vs A4 LT1

**Video**

I ran into a friend of mine who used to have a cobra. His new car was a nice 05 6.0 GTO. (M6) We ended up getting a few runs in. I was fairly impressed how well the LT1 held up against the LS2.

We went from about a 15 or 20 roll. First gear was pretty even, 2nd gear I pulled slightly and got about a half a car. Third gear he was in the same place and at the end of third he started going by slowly. By 125mph he passed me and got a car. Although, shortly after that pass it evened out again and it stayed even. I let off at about 130 though. That was the only race that I lost.

We had a few others. We went from a dig twice. (We both have drag radials. His were new and gripped nice) The first time I didn't torque it up at all and spun. He pulled out almost a half a car in first. I pulled in second and got on his door. We both had to let off at 85, but it was dead even.

Our next dig I got traction. I torqued it up a little and didn't spin. I pulled a car off the line and in 2nd I pulled a little more. By 100mph I still had a little more than a car on him and let off.

Unfortunatly, I only have one of the races on video. I haven't transferred the video to the computer yet. I'll try to get it up though. Of course, the video I have is the one of me losing...Which sucks, but it shows how close of a race the two cars are, since we got up to a high speed.

I have a Z28 A4 LT1 with LT headers, Matching Y-pipe, CAI, LT4 KM, and a tune.

What do you guys think? What do stock 05 GTO's run in the quarter. Don't they trap about 108-110 or so?

The Ls2 is a potent motor certainly capable of a high stock trap speed.
Ask some of the guys on hear what their stock Goats' ran at the track.

Good death, my buddy just got an 06 M6 and for stock it feels pretty good I must say... from what I hear just a simple tune and ditching TQM can really wake the cars up.

I wouldn't really call it a death. I beat him more than he beat me. If we were at the track, I think I could have taken him. It's not like any of us are going to hit 125mph in the quarter...

hmm, maybe he can't drive. Those things are low 13s all day long with a descent driver. my LT1 only ran a 13.5 with my mods. But's it's an unstalled A4.

You don't have LT's either. That makes a pretty big difference. My car ran an 8.4 in the 1/8. That wasn't a very good 60' either. I didn't get any more runs in, but I think I could have gotten an 8.3 with a low 1.9 60' or a 1.8.

He can drive pretty good. He had a cobra before this car. So, it's not like he isn't an experienced driver. He never missed any gears or anything and launched the car very well. (even though he had DR's)

Honestly, now that I think about it, the race made sense. I just thought it would pull me pretty hard up top...By the way, I don't have a stall either. Just the stock 3:23 gear.

There are LT1's with basic bolt ons and good tires getting into the 12's without a stall.

Yeah good runs! I know quite a few of '05 M6 GTO's that pulled 12.9x's bone stock. I don't take any F-body lightly LT1 or not...

12s with bolts on surely isn't no auto! Pretty damn rare. A manual or a stalled than yes. The power drops off on lt1s at higher speeds. That's where those ls1s shine at.

no headers but i did swap out that heavy *** metal driveshaft. Dropped .2. I bet it's similar to your headers at the track.

And yes, possibly, door code says I have 2.73s but I think there's 3.08s accourding to f-body.com/gear. I am not sure what was done to the car. Car runs to 6200 rpms. I'm not sure what tune. But honestly, it doesn't matter.

Tell me more about this heavy metal driveshaft. I think I'm going to do that mod for my car. What do I have to buy to replace it? I would like to drop .2.

I went from a 9.3 in the 1/8 to an 8.4 with LT's and a CAI. That's a pretty big difference in my opinion.

nothing, I bought lingenfelters.com driveshaft. It was $299 bucks. But it's on sale lately for $250.00

And yes, with the y-pipe too. So yes, full exhaust w/headers will get your nearly a full second. That sounds about right.

The car didn't feel as heavy. I don't mean phsical weight, just the response in turning, etc. It felt like me taking off my 18s and putting back on 16s. Just a total different feel. From what I gathered, it was about 6 pounds differrence. But rotating 6 pounds less is so different than carrying 6 pounds. The car just feels more responsive.

I'll make sure to run into you again after I get my headers installed. Haha.

Oh bah, I pulled off my stock DS and put on one that weighed 14# including the yokes on my 5.0 I noticed it reved cleaner and no-longer vibrated the shifter out of gear at 80 mph when I tried to shift. (Stock DS on a 5.0 sucks, this one had even been BALANCED! still ****.)

His car is faster then yours. With equal drivers at your mods youd get squashed.

haha good runs

i love the GTOs, I really really want one.

8.4 in the 1/8th is a bottom 13 in the quarter, don't see how you guys are saying the GTO is faster? If he hit an 8.4 on a bad sixty he could easily see 12s with some real launching.

oh there was mention of unstalled A4 LT1s hitting 12s?
LCAs, tires, LTs, catback, tune, cai = 12.9@105 1.92 60 foot IMO it coulda gone quicker with a better 60.

Hmm...That doesn't seem to make any sense, since the race already happened. We raced a lot. The only time he actual pulled on me was when he was in 4th gear. It wasn't even that bad either. You will see the video.

How would I get squashed anyway? Like someone else said, I ran an 8.4 without the best 60'. That's good for low 13's. Stock GTO's are not running mid 12's, hence making the cars a good race. GTO's typically run low 13's stock and some hit 12's...
