Question My TA VS. Ford Lightning

A friend of mine is talking **** about this svt lightning that he has, it's bone stock and he wants to run me for some cash tomorrow at ATCO,NJ. My car ran a 13.3@105 bone stock since then I've added tr55's,10.4 wires,160stat,MTI lid,Tsp Rumbler CB,and 342's. I have'nt ran it yet since the new mods. Should I take'm or am I introuble I don't know what svt lightning's run stock but I know that they are quick so should I raise the waiger or fall back?

You're gonna kill him. Stock 04 GTO's beat Lightnings (just using it for a comparison here) and 04 GTO's are running 13.07 (fastest) and 13.4-13.5 (average), and you are probably at 13 flat. Lightnings bone stock run around 13.8.

I'm assuming so...13.0-13.1 probably. Gears, Lid, etc. Yeah, especially since you were at 13.3 before.

And the only reason I used the GTO as a comparison, is because I'm fairly familiar with THEM and what they run. Your car at around 13 is faster than the GTO, and the GTO at around 13.5 is faster than the truck at around 13.8.

I had someone talking **** last week who owned one, he told a friend that he was sure he could take me. Well long story short, he was a full second slower than me at the track and he had a few mods. Never heard from him after that...

before you go running him for money, make sure he is stock, he could have a aftermarket pulley and the boost turned up, and you would never know it. Just make sure first, if he is, race him for money.

I swapped out my pulley on my Grand Prix and I've pulled on most Mustang GT's through the years. But thats not saying much.

Beware of the pulley swap. Easy horsepower!!!

Yep, i would ask him to open his hood, and find out what the stock pulley size is, or what it looks like, it could be ported too, have gears etc that you couldnt see with your eyes. Buddy of mine has one with 4.10 gears and it runs low 8's in th 1/8 and cuts 1/8 60's on street tires. How much money is he wanting to race for?

for a $1000 in mods those trucks can run mid to high 12's so make sure he is stock, if he is then you will take him no prob. I raced an '03 Lightning that was all stock when I had my M6 TA(also stock) and when I hit 3rd I had at least 4 lengths on him so you should be fine....just make sure you hook up, practice launching, and let some air out of your tires before the race if your on stock radials, try to be around 20-22 psi....

word, make sure it's stock...you don't want to find out when he sheers your eardrums a new one with that ported/pullied blower, but if he's close to stock...take his money.

i think you're gonna destroy him if you say he's stock. a kid i worked with talked a bunch of **** about his lightning. it had an intake and a flowmaster catback. i ran 13.6 at the track on a thursday and i flew up behind him on a 2 lane road 2 days later ( i didnt have the nutz to pass him on this road) but i had to back off a few times just so i wouldnt go through his rear bumper...take that fool's money man!
