i have always been told 6.0 GTO's will walk us... but EVERY single one ive raced which it be a M6 or A4 i have eather ran down or just beat. and im an A4. I ran an 06 from a 20 roll and held him off by 2 cars with my current mods, when i was stock i ran an 05 and beat it by a car, ive also ran a few others and the same outcome

LOL funny thing is, is that on the GTO forums they will say that a 6.0 will walk an F-body all the time. But when I had my goat i only witnessed this once, and when i actually did it by racing a freind of a friends 02 SS camaro (lid only) from a roll in my exhaust only (at the time) GTO he beat me all three times! was i dissapointed? yep sure was, but oh well **** it lol

Stock vs stock a "well driven" LS2 GTO is stronger than an LS1 F-bod period. It's close enough to be a driver's race. The GTO's are alot harder to launch with that IRS and wheel hop so the average race would have the F-bod getting a good enough lead to keep it. I've witnessed these races with my own eyes enough to know the LS2 pulls harder up top especially if it's the 6spd.

Here's a video a lightly modded '00 Trans Am vs a stock '05 GTO. The 3rd race will show what would probably happen if the GTO owner knows how to drive!!

Close the damn thread!!

Looks to me the GTO lost the second run, and who's to say the LS1 driver wasn't the best. ... I think this one will go back and fourth all day...

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

Before the turbo's, my T/A was faster than the my GTO. To be fair, my mods were: SLP lid, SLP "smooth" bellows, Pacesetter LT's, WS6store short stick, and a 12-bolt rear (cause I blew the stock one up). They are close. If the WS6 driver has a bad day and the GTO driver is having a good one, then a GTO can do it, but the WS6 (at least mine anyway) is faster, all things being equal. Before anyone says "it was your mods", my T/A would leave quite a few car lengths on my GTO.

Those things tend to do pretty decent in the top end once they get going. Not enough for me though. I throw my ls2 with minimal goodies back at em in my 7 year old firebird lol. They do not like getting beat by me. Haha. Oh well. I am sure I will run across one that will give me a good race one day. Too bad they are a ugly *** car. They look like a Grand am with weak hood scoops and a nice exhaust. Haha. Flame away gto owners.

Im goin with... its a drivers race. I lost to my buddies but I had a shitty launch and hit the damn rev limiter. However, when we were both on it no one was pulling the other. Also, from what ive seen (never driven a GTO), the GTOs are pretty easy to launch, my friend just leaves traction control on and he gets me out of the hole every time. (but this is just our 2 cars, everyone is different)

OP: good kills!

I never expected the new GTO to be faster then the F-Body in terms of straight line speed.

The F-Body platform was the closest you could come to an uncompromised straight line acceleration platform, while the GTO has some errs on the side of comfort and luxury that it must overcome.

People seem to forget the 18" wheels, IRS, and that extra weight tends to chew up that extra power that the goats come with, but thats really nothing new when you take into account that that ballast is what ALL cars from ALL makes are coming saddled with. The newest Chrysler "muscle cars" are literally 2 ton pigs and even the Mustangs have their own quirks to deal with, including drive by wire throttle bodies.

When the F-Body was discontinued, everybody was waiting to see what the true "fbody" replacement would be, but lo and behold it never came out. Ever since then the new performance cars had some type of achilles heel or the other, be it weight or computer tuning (torque management anyone?) or the fact that the public demanded flip down DVD players and bling bling 20s from the factory.

Look at the video again. The 2nd run was cut short because the GTO had to let off.

I was just being a jerk don't mind me I just feel alot of F-Bod owners have a lack of respect for what the LS2 GTO is capable of. I've seen LS2 GTO's with good driver's pull on F-bod's when both stock and with similar mods.
