Default K-Member Install Cost

What should I expect to pay to have a stock or tubular k-member installed?

I had my car aligned on Friday because it was pulling hard to the right after I lost control in the rain and jumped a curb.

The guy doing the alignment commented that I bent the frame (it was the K-Member he was referring to) and said it was hard to get it setup. Well it still pulls to the right and I am thinking I may need a new K-Member because it is pushed up (not in toward the center of the car)

I'll probably end up taking it to one of the performance shops in Northern NJ, but I kind of wanted to get a ball park 1st.

I'll try to get a pic tonight.

Should be in the ballpark of 4 to 6 hundred (labor only) depending on who you go to.

i would say 6-8 hours of labor. i would assume you have to drop the kmember with the engine and everything esle attaches and just transfer everything to the new kmember. and if they don drop the kmember, here the time to easily to a heads/cam, headers, bolt ons etc.

Yeah, my install was supposed to be 8 hours of shop
time and took a bit of overtime to get done. That
included poly motor mounts and an alignment but
still, it's a lot of work. The motor stayed with the
car (pedestal jack, car on lift).

Have a different shop check to see if your k member is bent. Also have them check to see if its your a arms. They tend to bend easier than the k member. It never hurts to have a second opinion.

Yeah I plan on it, the alignment shop was a gas station / service center so I'll try out a performance shop for their opinion.

Going to post pics in a few minutes...Heading to the garage now

Just my $0.02 worth...I'd skip the performance shop, and go to a body shop or heavy truck repair shop. Someplace that has a frame machine, and the refrence data for the F-bod.

I don't know, I was just under there and it looks all peachy aside from the dent in the K-Member

Upper and lower control arms look intact with nothing that appears to be bent. Here is a bunch of photos I snapped, I'm sure you'll guys will mention the power steering rack "sweating" is that an issue?

Don't mind the fluid all over the parts, the curb took out my B&M Trans cooler which was located in front of the passenger wheel in the bumper.

If you curbed it hard enough the spindle is probably the culprit and is bent........

In the one picture, it obviously shows that the K-member took a good shot. That impact was tranmitted to the rest of the unit-body. I'll again suggest a trip to the frame machine, just to be sure the front of the car isn't "tweaked"...

If you had to ball park, what would it cost?

Most shops charge by the hour. I would assume (bad word)that they would probably start around an hour to an hour and a half to get it on the "rack" and measure everything. After that, if it's just a little tweaked, it would make sense to pull it out, since the car is already set up. That might be another hour or so, maybe??

I'm going to a body shop tomorrow to have them check it out.

Crossing my fingers that this doesn't cost me too much

Thanks, I'm gonna need it. I truely love my car and this has been very frustrating.

If I can get by with only spending a few hundred on the frame, I might just go all out and replace the control arms, spindle, and K-Member.

Do they make lighter/stronger spindles?
