Default Modifying stock controll arms

Any one ever welded some supports (box in) their stock lower controll arms? Looking for a winter project in the garage that wont cost $. If so is there a noticable difference or would I just be wasting my time and should just save $ then buy new ones?

If you've got the metal and the tools do it, just a strip of 1/8" metal welded along the bottom of each arm should stiffen them up a good bit!, And don't forget a coat of paint to prevent rust on the new metal.
And then you could always put some 1le bushing in .

FYI - I built an identical copy of these for $80. Just need some threaded-end aluminum tubing and 4 rod ends. They also sell rubber bushings if you want them.

Sounds great where do you get those parts from. And on that note where is a good place to buy tubing and metal ect. from. I know lowes and Depot dont have that type of stuff.

OnlineMetals.com or MetalsDepot.com or there should be a steel distributor in your town, just go in and ask to see the "drop" section and look for what you want. Just make sure its DOM tubing.

The difference is the arms you posted a pic of are steel not aluminum. Plus the rod ends are high quality aircraft grade so compare apple to apples.

I did mine for $5.50 and that was for a 48" strip of 1/8" x 1 1/4" wide steel from Lowes. (you need 52" but I used scrap for that last 4")
I had everything else, also the bushings I put in were $46. I had a $50 off any purchase from Summit so maybe I can call the bushings free.

This is a non automotive rust proofing I sprayed inside.

These are Energy Suspension Polyurethane bushings. (next to the stock ones)

Thats is exacly what I was talking about thanks for the pictures. Any noticable difference in performance or handleing after the modification?

About the same differences I noticed with my poly/poly sponsor bought LCA's on my other car.

How much research does it take to buy an aircraft quality set of rod ends, cut and thread the correct length DOM tubing, tap the ends and screw them in?
Maybe Bobby F Body jr can't do it, but anyone with half a brain can.
