Default Need new brakes and rotors, suggestions...

I have a question about purchasing new brakes. I have a 2002 WS6 with 18 inch nittos with 18x10 Smoothie 2's. I need to purchase new brake pads and rotors for my car. What would be a good upgrade over the stock brakes and rotors? I definitely don't want GM parts. The only thing is right now I don't have a lot of money to throw around, so the $2-3000 brake setups unfortunately are out of the question. So can any of you give me any suggestions of some good companies to purchase brakes and rotors from? I know a search could help me, but figured that you guys could steer me in the right direction based on my wheel size.Thanks.

Let's get one thing out in the open before any one else posts... Are you looking to increase braking performance? Or are you interested in better looking brakes?

1.Better performance recipe: (budget version)
Sticky tires, Brembo replacement calipers, (NOT X-Drillled or slotted!!!) Carbotech pads (per Trackbird's recommendation) Motul fluid change

2. Bling recipe:
any x-drilled rotors cad plated, (preferably from a sponsor on the board), Hawk HPS pads

I think you meant "Brembo replacement rotors" Also, I believe ATE is a good alternative for half the price of Motul (and requires less maintenance), but either one is a definite upgrade.

I have the powerstop vented rotors, hawk pads, and earl's stainless lines all the way around and like it alot, i don't roadrace, car is setup for drag racing but it stops great and they look nice, too.

thunder racing has the whole package deal for like 570 or soemthing, even comes with fluid.

Thanks for the response guys. Basically I'm looking to improve my braking performance, though I wouldn't mind for them to make my car look better. Like I said earlier, right now I'm not looking to spend big bucks. For the ones you guys mentioned, do I need to replace the stock calipers, or can I stay with them? And what maintenance is involved with these brakes? I'm sorry for being an idiot on that, but I've never heard much maintenance for brakes other than cleaning them and getting rid of brake dust. Thanks again.

Your stock calipers are fine.

I've been saying alot about my brake setup lately... here goes again:

I'm running iRotors.. drilled, slotted, zinc plated.
Raybestos QuietStop pads.. ceramic front, metallic rear.
The whole setup cost me about $430.
Looks awesome, performs better than stock, and holding up well... 8 months so far no issues.

And if you've never done brakes before, don't worry, I never touched brakes on any car before I did mine, and I did my pads an rotors in about 3 hours. It's suprisingly simple to do.
