Default good road racong shock??

I would like to do a coil over setup in the rear..I dont want to spend 2K though..Whats the best shock in your opinion? The car has full suspension with all rod end bushings front to back. It just needs sway bars and a spring/shock setup.

BTW:
what bars do you guys recommend? Sphon solid chromolys?

A couple of questions now, Penske makes a GOOD shock for our car?
And what are Motons?

And here I thought that Koni's were the end all shock for these cars (for handling)...

" And here I thought that Koni's were the end all shock for these cars (for handling)..."

For most people in our price range, yes. Penskes and motons are a whole different level.

Is that the same Penske that makes $30 Autozone shocks?

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...Cat=suspension

1/2 way down the page is a listing for Moton. Not for our cars but you get the picture.

This is what to expect for Penske racing shocks.

Some of these shocks (Penske/Moton) cost more for ONE than we all pay for a set of 4 Koni's.

The guys asked for a good road racing shock. The hot ticket these days seems to be a Moton remote reservoir.

They aren't cheap, but they are good.

So would these types of shocks be used in the non-stock classes of SCCA?

And what makes these and advantage over the Konis? Is it adjustability of low and high speed compression and rebound?

And also is there a need for the remote resevoir?
I know that off-road cars need it to keep the oil cool enough to work, but can our cars have enough suspension movement to heat the oil to the point of not working.

Well I would call Sam and get the down low. But as you see sam has won it 5 times with Koni's i'm pretty sure so they must not be overheating or anything

In 60-90 second runs, nothing typically overheats.

In a 30 minutes race? Well ...

That link is represntative of the 8100 dual adjust. $750/ea is right about the norm... now for a comparison to the triple or quad adjustable Motons, the Penske 8760 runs around $1100 to 1300/ea in a triple adjust. if for some reason you think you need a quad adjust... you obviously pay more in taxes in a single pay period, than what I make gross... in a year. Because if you own a ride that requires that much damper, than cost isnt an issue with anything. If you do... then good for ya!!

Motons are nice... but dont offer what the Penskes do as far as being field rebuildable and the fact that you can purchase and re-build your own valve stack three or four times... for less than the initial price of a Moton.

Dont get me wrong, Motons are a pleasure to work and drive with... but Penske is more suited to knuckle busting grass roots racing.

I gues it is nice to finally see what is available as far as the BEST of the best of shocks.

I have never really seen anyone even talk of these shocks here on LS1tech and I was just curious as to what the top notch racers run.

EDIT: Hey Chicane is your Avatar Foamy the Squirrel? I was just over at a buddies house watching the videos and I must say that I was dying of laughter.

Damn! $10,000+ for the 4-way adjustable Motons, and they aren't even gold plated or anything.

Many Road-races have been won on Koni's too.

And before we get too far down this road the valving is the key, not so much the name on damper. Penske makes very nice dampers, and I've seen some horribly poor valving in them.

You might as be asking what's the best cam? You're not going to get a consensus. And BTW, the gas-charge in shocks acts like a radiator cap. The pressure doens't allow air bubbles to form, and that's what causes shock fade. If the shocks don't boil the oil, fade won't result.

I sell KW (carry it anyway). I don't use them unless they are the best option. Note I have other shocks on my car.
