Default Any tips to keep dogs from digging?

To not thread hijack the sprinkler head thread. Any one had any luck with getting dogs to stop digging holes in the yard? I know they generally do it to cool off in the summer but other times they just dig.

I had a Dalmatian one time that would dig holes in the yard all the time someone told me to give her a bath in the hole everytime I found one, I did and after 3 or 4 times she stopped.

Never heard of anything like that. So just a regular bath? As in stand them in the hole and clean them with soap and water?

LOL!

Speaking of baths, if I did have a sprinkler system I could pour soap on the dog and turn on the sprinklers and boom! Automatic dog wash!

My German Shepherd loves to dig holes with water in them so the bath thing wont work for me. But I have the same problem with mine. He actually got a really bad sprain in his shoulder from digging (I think) and had to be put on pain meds because he would eat due to the pain.

I am going to try the chili powder thing next.

I hate leaving them in the cage all day but they are destroying my yard. I think next I will try putting their poop in the holes.

Take a can and fill it 1/4 of the way with change or small washers. When you see the dog dig shake it or buy a shock collar but both require you to take the time to spy on the dog lol. Had to do it with my lab.

If that doesn't work you can try putting your poop in the holes.

Fill in the holes with gravel/rocks. We've done that along our fence line and at the very least it stopped our dogs from digging in those locations.

Over the years I have looked out the window randomly always hoping to catch them and not once have I seen them dig. My dogs are very well trained because I only teach them/discipline them when I catch them in the moment. That is the entire key to training. But I just can't catch them in the act, but that's because they usually only do it when I am not home, when I am home they stand at the back door and wait for me to let them back in.

LOL, I probably would drop a deuce in the hole if I knew it would work haha.

I may have to do the rocks, but at the same time I want to have grass not patches of rocks. Then there is the secondary part, I could fill the main holes and it not be a big deal. But they also dig just random little ones for no apparent reason.

Maybe I can just duct tape the crap out of their feet so they can't use their claws lol.

Can you imagine explaining that to the neighbors if they caught you dropping trow in a hole in your backyard. I would have a hard time believing it was to keep your dog from digging.
