At Home Depot...

Anyone have one and how is it holding up? I got some spare money this week and want another compressor as my dad always borrows mine.

They have a 5.5hp max., 32 gal. with tools for $299. They also have the same with a 28 gal. for $249...I would get the 32 gal. for obvious reasons.

Any other compressors out there that are a good deal, have a good warranty and a good capacity?

We ran one at our shop for a while, didnt have much luck with it, it was an 80 Gallon 240 volt, burnt up 2 motors in 2 days. We went with an industrial compressor and no problems since. I think we were just putting too much strain on the husky, it was turning on about every 5 minutes.

For my own little personal shop I decided I needed to upgrade to a bigger compressor, I only had a little craftsman 30gal oilless motor (Noisy as hell), I went to look at the Husky stuff and the new 80 gallon 240volt they had up there looked alot beefier than the one I used in the past so I bought it, and put the 3 year warrenty on it. I have had it for 4 months now and it has worked flawlessly, not one issue, very quiet, runs smooth.

Sounds like they may have made an improvement in their QA and production. I may give them a try as I go out compressor shopping today.

Hmm, looks like Campbell Hausfeld has some factory reman'ed HUSKY units on their web site. I guess them make them as well?

I have the $299 Husky setup you mentioned above. I've had it since July and so far no problems. I would buy from Home Depot, because my local one told me they'd warranty it for two years through a local air compressor repair shop in town.

The tools that came with it aren't the greatest, but so far they have done everything I've needed without any problems.

Plan on buying a new air hose, because the one that comes with it just plain sucks. Once it gets rolled up it never wants to unroll. It is also loud. Very loud. I solved this by putting it in the shed out back, and running a hose into the garage, where I mounted it to a dryer, regulator, and manifold.

For $300 I'd say this is a pretty good deal. Not the top of the line stuff, but it would be hard to buy an Ingersoll Rand impact wrench, air ratchet, die grinder, and air hammer for less than $300. You would have some nice tools though.

Thanks Cdogg...appreciate the feedback. I'm still trying to decide between that one and a C-H direct from C-H...which has some good deals on factory serviced models.

I have to second what cdogg44 said. I bought the same deal for Fathers day. I run the crap out of of while attempting to port some heads, buts handels averything else pretty well. I is FREAKIN' LOUD!

From my experience it seems like the oiless compressors are much louder than the regular ones. I have a Craftsman, and it is loud! I used to have an Industrial Air 60 gallon that was much quiter. If you can build something around it, it wont be soo bad.

I too have the 80 gallon 240 volt husky and it works great. It's oil lubricated so it's quiet for a compressor. The only real downfall is thats it's not portable (for obvious reasons). My only problem now is that a good moisture trap is gonna cost me more than the compressor

Is Campbell Hausfeld the ones that make the Compressors that Lowes sells? I am trying to decide if I should buy the one that Lowes sells with the tools or a Craftsmans Air Compressor. I forgot the specs but I will just be using it for working on the car nothing major and a little home improvement. I want a bigger one not really interested in a portable one. Which would you get. Thanks

Yes, I believe C-H makes the line that Lowes sells. Home Depot carries the Husky line. 30 gallon should be fine OR if you're not worried about portability, get the 60 gallon.

So are the C-H any better than the Craftsman? The C-H I'm thinking of getting is the one you can stand up or lay down I think it's a 28 or 35 gallon. I can't remember.

My friend has a used car shop and has a 30 gallon that he's used HARD for 4 years now. I asked him the other day if that Craps-man was still running, he said, "yes it is" and we both laughed. Unreal...I guess it was built on a Tuesday.

As far as C-H, I know a few people that own those as well. No problems that I know of. I would just go for the best deal monetarily speaking.
