Default 17x11 Question

I'm looking at a used set of rims, 17x9.5 and 17x11, I want to put the stock size tires on all the way around, I've got a 2001 WS6, will the 275/40/17 look ok on the 17x11 rears? Thanks Brent

275 will not work on a 11. You need to run atleast a 305/35/17 and the most common is 315/35/17

Why would you want to run 275 all around, trying to use your old tires? you wouldnt want to rotate offset wheels so there is no point. As stated above you dont want to mount a 275 on an 11" wheel.

That 275/40 is going to look "stretched out" on 17x11.
315/35 is the right size tires for those wheels.
Tire Rack sometimes have those size on closed out sale.

the 11 will also require modification to get them to fit

I have 275s on my rear 17x11s and they look goofy. Whoever had the car before me had them on and now im putting TTMs with 315s in the rear. I am only driving on them until my wheels come in but they look goofy and in my opinion are unsafe.

Who in the tire business would mount a 275 tire on an 11 inch rim? Are they asking to be sued or just too dumb to know not to do this?

...a 315x35x17 tire will fit on a 17x11x50mm rim and not require any modification for the rears on an F-body as long as the car has stock height springs; right?

..anyway I did 315 tires and wheels on all four corners (17x11x36 offset for front wheels) and I would never look back....

After a few weeks, I could swear the car came that way from GM! The cornering and handling is an amazing improvement over the skinny 275 tires.

Wow...and you had no problems in the front due to the 36mm offset?

Any pics?

To the OP,I have never seen ANYONE put 275s on an 11inch wheel....Just plain wrong.Like someone said, the smallest I have seen is a 305.And even that looked a little "funny" to me.I don't want to know what a 275 would look like.

275's will not work properly on a 11 inch rim. My 17*11 in rear fit perfectly and it rides good also. It's not lowered though

11's fit with minor inner fender well mods. Big hammer and some spray on undercoating and you can't tell they were touched. Had to extensively modify the jounce bumpers so they would clear the inside of wheel when jacked up off the ground though. After lowering had to do some more inner fender modifying. This is on a Camaro though. Don't TA's have a bit larger wheel well allowing a different offset to avoid the inner fender well?

It appears that Tire Rack, one of the largest tire retailers in the US must be "too dumb". Plug in 275/40/17, and pull up their tire selection in that size. Then click on "specs", and for EVERY tire in that size the "approved rim" comes up as 9"-11".

Anyway, this picture in my signiture of the silver SS from the front is with the 315 tires and 17x11x36offset wheels...

...handling around corners is now sensational! ...one of my very best mods!
