2019 Cadillac CTS-V Carries on Tradition of Luxurious Speed

By -

Cadillac’s CTS-V might be long in the tooth and nearing an end, but it’s still the king of performance luxury sedans.

Early generations of the Cadillac CTS-V have attracted their own unique cult following for offering up incredible potential in an amazingly comfortable platform. But that’s what happens when you combine a cushy Cadillac sedan with modern mad scientist GM V8 power. Through the years, we’ve only seen the CTS-V become more powerful and more refined, to the point where the 2019 model is truly a force to be reckoned with. And that’s exactly what Doug DeMuro found out in his recent test drive of this shiny new performance Caddy.

“It’s one of the most insane sedans on the market,” DeMuro leads with. “Even though it came out a few years ago, it has more power than the new BMW M5. And the BMW M5 Competition. And the Mercedes-AMG E63.” But that’s what happens when you stuff the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 from the Corvette Z06 into anything. The latest CTS-V, like every one before it, is truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

“This is the best CTS-V ever,” says a confident DeMuro. “Better than the first generation, which I owned. Better than the second generation, which I also owned.” But since the CTS itself is on the way out, this particular car is likely the end of an era. And that’s obviously quite depressing.

“The CTS-V is one of the most impressive performance sedans on the market,” DeMuro concludes. “One of the most impressive performance sedans ever. It’s a shame this car is going away after 15 years, but I’m eager to see what Cadillac is replacing it with.”

We wish we could agree with that last sentiment, but we’re obviously skeptical. It’s most likely that Cadillac will downsize its performance offering, so we’ll just have to wait and hope.
