Homebuilt G-Body Cutlass is proof that you can still hang with the pricey pros with a budget LS-powered ride.

In a world filled

with high-dollar, professional builds highlighted on TV shows like Street Outlaws, it certainly seems like no one races budget home-built hot rods anymore. Of course, that isn’t the case, and some even do so with great success against those pro dragsters in street car clothing. One such person is known only as Mr. Window, and he’s reportedly racked up an impressive record of 96-1 with his incredibly quick G-Body Cutlass dubbed “Frankenstein” that relies on LS power to run high 8-second passes.

The subject of this week’s Track Time Tuesday presented by Nitto, Mr. Window’s very blue 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass has made appearances on Street Outlaws: Memphis and Street Outlaws: Gone Girl, but is already a staple in the Las Vegas racing scene. “Every time I bring Frankenstein out, everybody goes crazy,” Window told The Drive. The secretive racer has been wrenching on cars since he was 12, and today, the fruits of those efforts have paid off with this home-built creation – a G-Body Cutlass that routinely covers the quarter-mile in 8.7 seconds at 146 miles-per-hour.

Window purchased his ride for a mere $100 from a buddy, but it also had $2,000 worth of parts in the trunk. The seller told him that the stash was his, so he sold those goodies off and used the money to purchase a 5.3-liter LS V8 that originally powered a 2004 Chevy Silverado. To that base, he added a custom BTR cam, titanium valves, methane injection, a trio of fuel pumps, Snake Eater injectors, and a large 109mm turbo. The bottom end is bone stock, however.

Underneath, the built Cutlass features a suspension lifted from a 1985 Monte Carlo, while a partial roll cage inside the stripped-out cabin keeps Mr. Window safe in the event of some hairy crash. Even the gauges are gone, as he relies on nothing more than a Dragy to keep tabs on how fast he’s going.

The result of all this work is one heck of a cool, budget dragster that runs some impressive times on rather small tires, on the street, to boot. The fact that Mr. Window built this G-Body himself on a budget just makes it that much better, and it’s solid proof that home-built hot rods still stand a chance against the big dollar pros.
