Camaro SS 1LE Takes on an Audi RS3 and a BMW M2

By -

We typically think of the Camaro as a muscle car. In reality, it’s also capable of hanging with the Germans.

When you think of natural competition for the Chevrolet Camaro, the Mustang, Challenger, and maybe Charger come to mind. After all, the Camaro is a muscle car, right? These models have gone toe to toe for decades now, fighting for the right to be called America’s best muscle car. However, today’s Camaro is actually a pretty refined ride, too. But it is refined enough to compete with luxury car rivals like the BMW M2 and Audi RS3?

It’s a question, apparently, that a lot of people have been asking. Thus, the fine folks at Throttle House set out to answer it in this informative video. Or at least try to. Interestingly enough, one of the hosts claims the BMW M2 is their pick for the best compact sports sedan in the world. The other, says the same of the Audi RS3. But they brought along a Camaro, too. Why, you ask? “If you’re looking for fun for value for dollar, that one’s going to win,” he claims.

The Chevy, of course, is the heaviest, biggest, and cheapest of the trio. But it’s also the most powerful. It’s more of a blunt instrument than the Germans, on paper, but our host still points out that it belongs here. And when they get behind the wheel, that feeling is solidified. “OK, alright, I get it,” one notes after hitting the throttle. “The Camaro is like drunk whiskey drinker at the end of the bar that keeps playing I Love Rock n’ Roll on the jukebox.”

In the end, the Camaro makes their ultimate decision difficult. Both were equally blown away by how well the car goes and handles, hating only on visibility and interior quality. In the end, they go with the BMW M2, which they call a combination between the Camaro and RS3. But the fact that they came away so impressed with the Chevy says a lot about how good it’s really become.

It’s worth noting that we also reviewed the Camaro SS 1LE, and heralded it as one of the finest handling cars on sale today. The Alpha platform Camaro can embarrass some seriously expensive metal in the handling department.
